Agent AKA: Candy Girl

Coming of Age Mystery Romance

"Faye, Faye, let's go check this out," Lulu said excitedly as she points to a karaoke bar. We got got done eating burgers and were now figuring out what to do afterwards. I swear when I first saw her in that cocktail dress, I felt like I was knocked out.

"I don't know Lulu. It's seems a bit crowded to me," I said nervously. It wasn't too crowded. In fact, there was only a handful of people there while some guy singing "Lips of an Angel" by Hinder. Amazing song by the way, but I'm not one to go up stage and sing my heart out. I believe Lulu knew this but she didn't care. She just wanted something to remember by on our third date.

"Oh, come on, you know there's no such crowd," starts my person of interest. "There's practically a dozen people in there. Plus, I want to sing you a song."

"Okay, fine," I give in. "But don't expect me to sing up for you there."

"Awww, I was sort of hoping you would. At least one song," Lulu said while giving me her cutest puppy dog eyes.

"If you're trying to guilt trip me, it won't work," I replied with a half smile.

"We shall see about that. Now, come along, let's get the show on the road. Or shall I say, let's get the show up there on that stage."

She cracks me up. Thus one of the reasons I'm so fond of her. So fond that I am falling in love with her. We have been talking to each other for a least a month or two and after the first two dates, I started to have deep feelings for her. Maybe this was my chance to tell her those feelings and thoughts. Just how am I supposed to do it? Maybe I can put my shyness aside and sing her a song through karaoke. The question is which song? Come Faye, you can do this! It's just a song. If you can disarm someone from point blank, surely you can sing a number to confess your feelings to your lover.

We went through the only entry of the karaoke and find someone else coming up to sing a different after some applaud. This time, it was a woman singing "I'm Every Woman" by Whitney Houston. Another classic. Got to say, the crowd today, even though it's a small one, has great taste in music.

The two of us checked around the facility and looking around, there were plenty of tall chairs with round tables to go around the perimeter of the bar, by which was smack dab in the center. Meanwhile the stage was at the far end to our right side. The bartender was stationary to their bar while the DJ was sitting next to them, bringing the music alive.

"I'm going to request a song right away," said Lulu in a heartbeat.

"Okay, I'll get myself a bloody Mary. You want anything?"

"A screwdriver would be nice."

"Sounds good, I'll get us a seat if I happen to get our drinks beforehand."

"See you in a bit," she said while giving me a kiss on my cheek. She's so spontaneous, I love it. I just gonna return the favor.

As she went up to talk to the DJ, I went to the bartender and requested our drink. Within mere seconds, the bartender made my blood Mary and Lulu's screwdriver without breaking a sweat. I thank them and saw that Lulu was still talking to the DJ. She's always been the type of person to hold a conversation. I'm taking she's made a new friend and they'll be exchanging contact information to one another right there and then. I look around and found us a table near the window where we first saw the karaoke bar. As soon as I placed myself in the stool, Lulu came in and spoke anxiously: "Guess what?"

"You got a new friend?" I asked with a half smile.

"Yes, I did but I'm going to be the next singer after this one!"

"No way!"

"Yes way! Oooo, I'm so excited on what I'm going to sing to you."

"You aren't the only one," I said while reaching for her hand.

She responded while holding it, "I know you're going to love it."

Just as the current song by was finishing, the DJ spoke through the speakers: "Thank Bianca for some Whitney Houston. We still miss you, Whitney! Next up, we have a very special guest. A new friend of mine by whom, I happen to meet! It's no other than Lulu! Let's give it up for her!"

The small amount of people and I clapped our hands as my date (and lover) made it up to the stage. Then I heard the tunes from the Archies and automatically knew which song it was while I gave her the biggest smile on my face. It was "Sugar, Sugar" by the aforementioned band.

"Sugar

Oh, honey, honey

You are my candy girl

And you got me wanting you..."

Lulu got the crowd cheering as she pointed to her. She never ceases to surprise me with the things she does. Another reason why I love her. We all got to clap the beat as Lulu continue singing her heart out to me. She was a natural singer for a travel agent.

Just as the song was about to end though, my left hearing aid ear began speaking to me: Agent AKA, you there."

"Great, not now," I whispered to myself.

"AKA!"

We applaud for Lulu's performance.

"Alex Kayla Amberson!? Do you copy?"

I finally responded interrupting my applause to Lulu, "Yes?"

The hearing aid asked: "Can I speak to you, Alexandria?"

"Sure, give me a sec. I'm currently outside of work."

"I understand but this requires the upmost urgence of your attention."

"You got it. I'll call you in a bit."

"Is everything okay?" asked Lulu as she saw I was a bit irritated.

So instead of telling her the truth, I responded to her concerning question by saying: "Yeah sorry, my hearing aid is acting up. Great job up there. You had me really going."

"Oh, it's absolutely okay," Lulu says. "I totally get it. Awww thank you sweetie. I appreciate it, especially coming from you. There's been something I have been meaning to you."

"I do too but first let me take care of this earpiece issue."

"Oh, absolutely, I'll be here waiting for you."

"I won't be long."

"Don't be," she smiled. "We still have a whole night ahead of us."

I smiled back before giving her a simple nod. A nod!? Seriously, Faye? What the hell you giving your date a nod when you should be giving her a kiss of reassurance! I can be such an idiot. As I walked away, I can see Lulu was sort of disheartening as she slowly lifts her screwdriver with tiny sips. Whatever work has me doing to put a pause on my date, it better be good.

Because of course work calls at the inconvenient time. But a secret agent job is never done. It's too bad I can't flat out and tell Lulu about my occupation. It's all supposed to be confidential.
