I'll always love you...

Two pure kind souls, Carol and Alice, were hugging each other, they pressed their bodies together for the last time while tears slowly rolled down their eyes until they touched each other's skin. They didn’t want to say goodbye but it was needed, the world didn’t understand their innocent and genuine love for each other and they knew that if they stayed together at that moment it would be bad for both. That was the sad reality of many "non-traditional couples" from the 18th century.

-I love you so much- Said Carol between tears- And I will always love you, but I prefer to live the rest of my life alone then knowing that the reason you never reached your dreams was me

-Don’t leave me, please- Begged Alice- I don’t care… I can’t live without you, my dreams are nothing without you

-I am very touched to hear this but you shouldn't have to give your life away because of me- She answered- You’ll be fine, you are a survivor

-The thing is not that I can’t survive without you, I can and I know it but I simply don’t want to

Carol’s heart melted with those words, she wanted to stay with her beloved forever but… she had to be strong, the only reason she was doing that was that she knew that Alice would survive, she’ll live a happy life even if she wasn’t in it.

-Please, just go...

-I can’t, my heart belongs to you and nobody else

Carol held the girl's face with her hands, felling her girlfriend’s soft face

-My heart also belongs to you and nobody else- She said kissing the woman’s forehead- But we can’t stay together, at least not right now. They don’t understand our love. We need to say goodbye so one day we can stay together forever

-Fuck the world, I want you

-I know, honey, but don’t see this as an eternal goodbye. I promise that at the end of our lives, will see each other

-I hate waiting. But if that means being able to be with you, I’ll wait as long as forever to be with you

-I promise will be together and we’ll live in this cottage together

-Do I really have to leave you here?

-Yes

-But what if you forget me?

-I’ll never forget you, it’s impossible to forget the reason why I’m alive

They kissed. A long and soft kiss. A pure kiss from pure love. They wanted for that moment to never end. They never wanted to let go but... eventually, they had to. It was hard, it hurt a lot but it was necessary. But they enjoyed their short forever.

-I wish we could just be a happy normal couple, I wished people just understood our love- Said Alice

-I know… but if our love it's true it will survive

-I’ll miss you

-I’ll miss you too, but know that you are the reason I’ll get up every morning because I’ll tell myself that I’m just one more day closer to seeing you again

They hugged again before letting each other go.

-Goodbye, beloved

-Goodbye, honey

Alice got her bags, looked again into her girlfriend's eyes, and went away. She did not look back because if she did it would only hurt more. While Carol just watched her go into the distance and when she could not see her, her knees gave up and she fell into the ground crying.

Don’t think that this is a sad story. Well... It’s a little but they eventually got their happy ever after. Of course, years passed, a lot of things happened but there wasn’t a single moment where they didn’t miss each other. Their souls were together even though their bodies were apart. They were the perfect couple in a not so perfect situation.

45 years later…

Carol was taking care of her flowers, her garden was enormous, there were flowers in so many different colors and sizes. A bunch of people who passed by stopped to look at her plants, most of them she would invite to come in, to drink tea and eat her famous chocolate cookies. Everyone from that region loved the nice old lady, especially the kids who she would tell stories to.

Alice had just given up everything she builds in the past years for something better... love. A love that survived time, distance, and enormous obstacles. An uncertain love that was worth the risk, because even though she was scared that her girlfriend had forgotten her, she would go back. She made a promise and she was going to keep it.

Suddenly she hears a noise, a noise from steps. She looked back thinking it was probably someone who came to see her flower but she definitely did not aspect Alice, she could have changed a lot in the past years but the old lady could always recognize her girlfriend.

She ran as much as her old body letter her and hugged the woman tightly

-You came back- She said

-And you waited for me- The other answered

-I missed you, beloved, as I never missed anyone before

-I missed you too, honey

-Everything made me remind of you. The stars, the blue sky, the people. I just wanted to share everything with you.

-Please, never leave me again

-I won't

-Do you still love me?

-Of course, I do. Do you still love me?

-More than ever... more than ever

They hugged for several minutes and after, kissed for even longer. Carol invited the woman to come inside and tell her everything. She did. They talked for hours and after made love in their bed. After that day, the two of them never left each other side until their last day, until their last breath of fresh air, until their last heartbeat. That’s what true love is. It’s not being not able to live without each other but actually not wanting to. It’s about waiting forever if needed because you don’t want anybody else other then her. It’s knowing that sometimes it’s needed to let go so you can get together again.
