Historical Fiction Drama Horror

*This is my first attempt at making a story, I do struggle with grammar so it may be difficult to read. Also, some horror stuff related but I’m not sure if it’s enough to scare anyone but proceed with caution.*

"Mom, why are there lights in the sky? they're so bright..." I softly said to my mother, she sat next to me and hugged me "Honey, those are comets..." She said this with a chuckle " You should get to bed. It's late." I looked at her. I didn't realize then but her eyes were filled with sorrow but happiness. "Okay, mom.." That night instead of sleeping, I watched the comets, I knew I'd be too tired for school the next day but my Childish mind said "Watch those Comets, it'll be alright"

As I was watching the comets I noticed something that looked like a crashing rocket but I thought nothing of it and fell asleep from exhaustion.

"Bruno... Bruno honey wake up!" My mother woke me up, I looked past her and squinted at my clock, it was 1:32 am. "Bruno we need to go- grab your bag and put some things you want to bring and go to the living room and stay away from the windows." Me being an unaware child i did as she said. I looked around and got my clothes, a teddy bear I named Winnie, I also noticed a small sparkle and realized it was the necklace mom gave me. I put it on and went to the living room and waited for my mother. As much as I wanted to, I was too scared to look out our windows. My mom came and put a silk cloth and gently tied it around my eyes. I wasn't able to see it but it was comfortable and I was too tired to complain. "Mom..? Why are we leaving so early? the sun isn't out yet.." I said trying to hold back my yawn just to see if I could. "Bruno... Honey I-..." She let out a deep breath and she must've closed her eyes because i know she does that when she doesn't know how to explain things to me " Listen... I love you, I want you safe. I want to protect you but the world we live in is... Harsh and- I just don't want you to have a bad childhood. I want you to be the boy with the best grades- with the girls going crazy for- with many friends, I want you to have a good life... I hope you can understand Bruno..." I didn’t understand the meaning of her words but I tried. I tried to understand her, her reasoning. I couldn’t understand her, I felt pity and guilt for her and I didn't understand why.

Some time passes and as we walk through what seems to be our town I can sense people staring, Not at me but at something else, Something that seems to be about 5 times my size. It’s also extremely silent. I can’t see anything but I can tell people are terrified, Making me terrified of looking. “Mom? If it isn’t much… Could you tell me what you see?” I said in more of a whisper tone. My mother gripped my hand tightly, they were clammy and moist. Did she seem scared? Stressed? Confused? I couldn’t put my finger on it but something was bothering her and I couldn't see it. That bothered me. “B-Bruno...Keep the blindfold on… for my sake..” My mother’s hand tightened and it started to hurt but barely, her voice was shaky and sounded like she was fearful of what I could see if I took off the cloth. Slightly annoyed yet still in fear I waited till I could sense she wasn’t paying attention to me. She let go of my hand and I heard the rustling of her coat and heard her phone power on. That's when I went against my will and moved the cloth and saw something that scared me, I felt like I was frozen. I wanted to scream nothing came out. This thing was Giant compared to me, a nine-year-old boy who is about 4-5 feet tall. This creature- no- demon looked horrifying, it had these giant horns growing from its head and its eyes looked too creepy to look into, it had sharp teeth and suddenly I heard a demonic growling, like an agitated dragon. It climbed up to our clock tower and looked down at all of us. I wanted to cry but I couldn't, My mother got off her phone and I looked into her blue eyes, they were no longer the eyes of a calm sea, they were now filled with fear. I wish I had listened and never looked. My mom pulled me closer to her then we started walking. As we walked I noticed that the demon kept its eyes locked on all of us. “M-mom I hear things… What's happening?” I started to panic and I was barely able to get the words out of my mouth. “Bruno...Don’t. Look.” My mom said this to me, the problem was it was too late, I can’t look away now that I’ve seen this thing. I manage to get my frozen body to slip the cloth over my eyes covering the world from my sight. We keep walking and after some time passes we stop and I hear a door creak open and feel the warmth from the inside. It's a nice cozy feeling that comforts me from the harsh winter outside. My mom gently unties the cloth covering my eyes. I look at her and it seems the reality that I have seen our world has dawned on her, it must’ve broken her heart because she started crying. She let out a deep breath that sounded shaky “B-Bruno did you look? Please be honest...I won’t be mad.” I hugged her and started to cry too “I’m sorry I didn’t listen mom…” She cried a bit more before cleaning up her tears. “Bruno it’ll be alright...We just have to stay here a bit is all.” She wiped off my tears then brought me to a room that seemed pretty empty. All the room had was 2 beds and a dresser and the walls were an old off-white color and the floor was wooden and must’ve aged quite a bit because when I walked on it it was squeaky sounding. I look off to the right and see a girl about my age crying too, and who I assume her mother is, comes into the room holding a cup of soup. “Bruno these are the people we will be with for a bit. Try and make some friends...It might get your mind off some things.” My mom said to me and I looked at her and nodded in agreement. I was never a verbal child, the only person I talked to was mom. I never knew my father but mom says he was a great soldier and protected the people he loved. He sounds like a good person but I wonder if I’ll be able to meet him. I walk into the room hesitantly and place down my bag and shuffle around in it taking out Winnie my bear. This piqued the interest of the girl who is now behind me, I sat on the bed and ran my fingers on the stitches on the bear, When I was four I accidentally tore his arm but mom was able to stitch him back together. I looked up and saw the girl looking at my bear. She had caramel brown hair that was braided nicely and she had green eyes and some freckles I barely noticed. Putting Winnie down I said quietly “Winnie…” the girl looked at me and seemed curious “Your bear’s name is Winnie? That's cute!” She smiled at me which made me feel better about the situation I'm in “Mhm his name is Winnie...What about your teddy?” I said this knowing full well that I’m coming off as shy. Not the best start but it’ll do. “Oh, my teddy’s name is Cuddles..” She said this seemingly happy, she lifted up her bear for me to see. It has a missing eye and is fluffy and pure white, Mine’s made of cloth. They no longer make cloth teddy bears due to them being fragile and easy to tear. The name cuddles made me laugh a bit. “What’s so funny about Cuddles?” She said to me in an annoyed tone. I didn't say much “Cuddles just reminds me of that funny dog on the T.V” She started to laugh too. My mom came in the doorway “Bruno you should go to sleep...Wouldn’t want to be too tired for tomorrow. Oh and Isabella your mom said you should get some rest too.” Without complaint, I moved the sheets to get ready to sleep. Isabella started to whine a bit at the idea of sleep “Awh do I have to? Can’t Mommy let me stay up for a bit longer?” Isabella’s mom came in too “Yes, you have to go to bed.” Isabella started to protest “But-” Her mom cut her off “No buts young lady, go to sleep.” Her mom left and Isabella, disappointed, went to bed on the other bed on the right of the room.

I’m hoping tomorrow will be better.

I’m being gently shaken awake but it’s not my mother so I open my eyes still squinting and it’s the girl named Isabella, I’m not sure why but she woke me up so I stood up in my bed and rubbed my eyes “Why are you waking me up so early…?” I quietly said, scratching the back of my neck. I looked over and saw pure fear in Isabella's eyes. Immediately I rush out of bed over to our window and see multiple creatures. I start to fear the worst that could happen but I grabbed isabella and hid under the bed, she was about to scream but I moved my hand over her mouth then I see a giant thing about the size of a house crush the right side of our room just barely missing us, I almost started to cry but Isabella was already shedding tears, who could blame her? For all, we know humanity is ending. The creature went away after checking its surroundings my mother came running over looking exhausted, She started screaming when she saw the rubble. I looked around real quick then crawled out from under the bed with a horrified look on my face and Isabella crying. “Bruno!” My mom yelled from the doorway, she ran over to me and gave me a tight hug “I thought i lost you! Don’t scare me…” she cried as she continued to squish me. “I’m sorry i scared you mom but Isabella is pretty spooked...Do you know how i could help her?” My mom shook her head and that gave me a feeling of disappointment and worry, I could barely handle the truth of our situation. How in the world could she cope with this better than I can? We’re the same age roughly and there are demon-looking creatures everywhere. We ended up having to pack our stuff up again. I got all my stuff together and I'm still wearing the necklace mom gave me. It's a thin silver chain with a single diamond encrusted in the middle in the shape of an apple. In our town, it’s believed that if you have a perfectly ripe apple you’ll get good fortune. We walked out of the town entirely. We are now in the middle of the forest, it’s quiet and dim. Humanity will survive one way or another, it’s just the survivors' mental state I'm concerned about. I hope it will be safe to go back home soon. Isabella tugged on my sleeve “Bruno do you know when we will go back?” I looked at her and shook my head “No I don’t, but we’ll go somewhere safe...We just need to find a new place to call home. That's all…” I said this hoping that soon we will find a home to call our own.

Author's note: I wasn’t able to finish it because I kinda ran out of ideas but I hope it wasn’t too hard to read. I might make another one but I’m not too sure if I’ll have the time.
