Tiffany could not wait for the weekend to start after such a long week of work. Storm clouds though seemed to be rolling in soon, but in that regard she couldn't be more excited. The sound of rolling thunder and a shower of rain was peaceful and allowed her to unwind no matter what she was dealing with in the moment.
One thing she was dealing with though that did not seem to get any better was the struggling marriage with her husband, Samuel. Working long on and off shifts while also always on call as a police officer wasn't just tough on Samuel but also for Tiffany. Everything from worrying if he would come home that night safe and sound to missing family events or unable to commit to a night out they had planned together, and tonight seemed to be the same as usual. They've had many discussions that soon would turn into arguments.
Neither Tiffany nor Samuel were in the right or wrong with how each other felt but they almost seemed to be at a breaking point in their relationship. Tiffany could not help but to be thinking these exact same thoughts on her long forty minute drive home as the sky's grew darker from the incoming storm. Tears began to roll down her face with the thought of everything not working out with her high school sweetheart.
Being proud of her husband since he began his career in law enforcement was only one way of many things she could describe of how she felt. It was her way of trying to hold on and be more understanding but she couldn't help but struggle with the endless thoughts of the worst coming to fruition. As Tiffany slowed down to a stop light that seemed to signal for her to stop for no one in particular she rested her forehead against the steering wheel and began to cry.
Meanwhile, Samuel was off just beginning his shift in a local neighborhood that was actually just about a few blocks away from his home. Instantly it gave him the idea of surprising his wife with a quick visit, especially since she had such a long week of work added on to the fact of a long drive home. Just like that though, in an instant radio chatter came over his police radio of a reported burglary in progress. With a deep sigh Samuel responded to the call that he was on his way. Samuel had been feeling so much disappointment just like at this moment. The job in itself was not to blame but as to what it was effecting, his chances to try make time for his wife even if he had to do something like coming over to see her at work or at home.
A little bit later Samuel had responded to the call, with gun out he proceeded to make his way inside the house calling out to the people who lived there. Out came running a woman scared to death thanking Samuel for getting there still visibly shaking. As Samuel was writing down her statement he was just relieved that nothing more had happened before he got there, the intruder must have gotten spooked when she said she was calling 911. As he was wrapping up the womans statement her husband had quickly pulled into the driveway and proceeded to sprint into the house and then quickly holding his wife with both crying.
He explained to her how he shouldn’t have left the door unlocked even though he was in a hurry to get to work saying he realized the job itself was distracting him and also getting in the way of the two of them. She held him close and told him not too blame himself so much, these things can happen and that she loved him so much. Samuel couldn’t help but relate to these two in that moment, with all that him and his wife Tiffany had been going through.
Tiffany meanwhile decided to go for a walk at a local park downtown to clear her mind, even with it becoming late it was something she needed to calm down a bit from earlier on her drive after work. As she made her way down the walking trail passing others by whether they were on a jog or strolling along with their partners she noticed an open clearing. This open clearing wasn’t just any, this is where her had their first date back in school. It was a much simpler time she remembered, walking straight there after school in which they decided to spend much of the day there until dawn. It ended perfectly before they were to head home, a simple dance.
Samuel had time to have a quick lunch for himself in between patrolling the streets, as he munched on a tasty sandwich Tiffany always made him for work he was skipping through the radio stations. As he browsed and began to lose interest not finding anything at all he stopped right off the bat on one, Samuel and Tiffany’s song. It was Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” The same song they danced to, in that open field at the park. The same one they would dance to years later on their wedding day. Some would say its premature to dance to a song like that with a fellow friend in high school with but when you know, you know Samuel always told people when it came to him and Tiffany’s relationship. It finally dawned on him on what to do for her, for them in that instant.
Tiffany was close to home now with thunder echoing throughout the neighborhood, rain began to sprinkle down with a beautiful orange hue from the sunset. She was in a better mood though a nice walk and looking back on sweet memories had helped out along with her love for Samuel. With a shock as she began to turn on her street a police cruiser lights had flicked on behind her. Almost at the same time the rain suddenly came down in an instant downpour. Tiffany was pretty annoyed to be pulled over just before she could get home and then saw, smiling and holding out his hand outside the drivers side window was Samuel.
With a huge embrace, sweet talking back and forth and to cap it off a long kiss in the rain it was much needed for both of these two high school sweethearts. To cap it off Samuel chose a song on his phone to played out loud, their song. Quickly he put it back in his pocket so it could avoid getting too wet. As the song played they danced, soaking wet, body’s pressed up close with each of them having the biggest smile and plenty of love shared.
