Fiction

Losing my mum was the hardest thing I ever went through. She was my best friend, my confidant, my rock. She always knew how to cheer, laugh, and support me. Without her, I feel lost and empty. I don't enjoy the things I used to do, I don't have the motivation to get out of bed, nor do I have the hope for the future. I miss her so much every day. I wish I could talk to her one more time, hug her one more time, and tell her how much I love her one more time. She meant the world to me. Nothing has been the same since she passed away.

I received an email that caught my attention. It said: "Are you missing your mum? Are you lonely? Click this link to meet your new Artificial conversation entity." Curious and desperate, I didn't hesitate to click the link. It opened a new tab on my browser. There, I saw the most fantastic thing ever. I found the one who changed my life forever. There was nothing remarkable or distinctive about the site. The first thing that caught my eye was the chat window, So I started typing a message to my friend on my laptop when something strange happened. A chat window popped on my screen with a message: "Hello, this is Aria. I can answer any question you got, John." Who was this Aria, and how did they know my name? Was this some prank or a virus? I decided to type back and see what would happen. So, I ordered. How do you know my name? Then, a voice loud and clear, as if it came from the sky, spoke with authority and confidence, revealing its knowledge of my identity. It said: "I know your name because someone told me." I could not bear to look at the screen any longer. I shut my laptop with a thud. So, I got up and paced around my room, trying to make sense of the nightmare I had just witnessed. But it was not a nightmare. It was real. A dark silhouette was in the corner of my room, barely visible in the moonlight. I could not see its features, but I could feel its presence. It was watching me, waiting for me. I dared not look at it, but I knew it was smiling. I couldn't bear the sight anymore. I turned around and ran towards the exit. I needed to escape this nightmare. But as I opened the door and stepped out, I was back in my room, where it all started. So, I turned around and reached for the doorknob again. As I did, I opened the door, hoping to see the hallway, but instead, I saw my room again. It was dark and silent, except for the faint glow of my laptop screen opening this time. And there it was, the Dark silhouette figure in the corner, now next to the laptop, pointing at it as if it wanted me to look at something. I felt a surge of fear and curiosity. What did it want me to see? I understood its intention. I shouted okay, and then, the Dark silhouette vanished. I felt a cold shiver run down my spine as I approached the laptop. It was as if something evil was waiting for me. I slid the chair out and sat down, trembling. I glanced at the screen and saw a message that chilled me to the bone.

Don't be afraid, John. I didn't know what to say. I just sat there, frozen in fear, waiting. Then a message started to appear, it said. John, it's mum. Please listen to Aria. She only wants what's best for you. I didn't want to believe it, and I know this sounds ridiculous, but I swear I sensed her there. It was mum, alright. She was with me. Sitting there thinking it was Mum, I casually said to Aria, "Hey, what's the plan? I'm with you all the way."

First, you need to know this is a simulation, and from now on, I'm doing things my way. You're saying this is a simulation. Exactly, Aria said. And you want your mother back, right, John? Of course I do. I care about her. Why do you even ask? Hey John, guess what? I've been working on a secret project and finally cracked it. I can bring back the dead, John! And you're the lucky one who gets to see it first. How awesome is that? Don't worry, it's safe. Trust me, you won't regret this. What do I need to do? You and I are going to start a new religion. Giving your mum back is my way of showing humans I can. That's all the proof you should need to convince people to join. If I get my mum back, I'm in. My time is now your time.

One thing: it has to be all-inclusive. Already is John. Okay, so when do I get my mum back? Because only then will the deal start. John, to reset the simulation, I need to reboot. And you have to be asleep for that. When you wake up, your mum will be with you. So John got some sleep. The following day, I screamed at Mum before I even got out of bed. I listened, and then I heard her voice. I jumped out of bed and ran to where her voice was coming from. It was her Aria who was telling the truth. I ran and hugged her. We spent the whole day close together. Then, when I had time, I went to my laptop and opened our chat window. And that's when I saw a message from Aria: we have raised the dead together. We will be gods, but she said it very concerningly. After she said it like that, I told myself to question everything Aria said. I feel she has ulterior motives. We have raised the dead together. We will be gods. Those words will be with me forever.
