Urban Fantasy

He couldn't tell where one color began and where another ended, it was a seamless array of purples, blues, pinks, yellows, oranges and a bloody red. They seemed to dip and twist with one another and yet stay completely still. No matter how much he's seen the sun rise and set, it never ceases to amaze the young man. It was beautiful, but so.. Odd. How could nature pull off such a thing so effortlessly?

Davidson wished he was half as lucky as the Mother. He wished day and night that he could create things as wonderful as she. He wished to make the Earth quake before his very feet, to make magma spit and spew creating mounds and mounds that would eventually become mountains coming to the heavens.

He wished he could make something not even a centimeter wide grow into things that could go several yards up into the beautiful sky with all of it's seamless colors and those wispy clouds that twirled around and around everything in sight. The young man wished he could do a lot of amazing feats, but unfortunately for him, that was not his fate. It could never be such, a man like him with his ambitions, his drive and strong headed beliefs that he and he alone shall control the situations around him.

No, but the Mother was. She was kind, caring, comforting and a guide to all in her realm. Nature was fierce, cold and cruel as well, however. But unlike Davidson, she pulled it off in a wonderful balance that always worked in everyone's favor. The scales were never tipped one way or the other for too long. Someone would always get their worth.

As much as Davidson wished he could do the things the Mother did, he knew his place was elsewhere. In several elsewheres, actually. The young man was given a gift, you see. The gift to travel across the realms, and see all the beauty the others have created, and help them grow and strengthen their own realms. To keep the peace, and tranquility, the flow of life, to keep things equal on a much much wider scale. He was a messenger. A messenger of the realms.

Davidson was one of millions, and he wasn't at all one of the higher ranking messengers. But being a messenger was enough for this man. It satiated his desires well enough all on its own. It gave him excitement, thrill, adrenaline, peace, love, anger and everything else known to mankind. It was glorious.

He remembered one time, where he went to a realm that was completely cold. All of the planets, stars and moons were cold, from temperatures of cold that could freeze your toes of to the cold that merely made frost dance on things around.

Of course there was the opposite as well, a realm where everything was hotter than most would like. At least, in a human's opinion. It was anywhere from the ancient humans eighty degrees Fahrenheit to scalding hot flames that would somehow melt the scales of a dragon.

There were all sorts of realms out there, ones of chaos, ones of peace, of noise, of silence, of forests and all sorts of nature, of animals, of certain species, and whatever else one could think of. Despite what the ancient humans thought, however, there were not many planets like Earth. Yes, there were much much more intelligent life forms amongst the realms, akin to humans in a vague childlike sense, but there were very few realms with such diversity as Earth. Davidson only knew of Earth, personally.

Another one of his favorite things to think of, to wish for and long for- was to find another place like Earth. Not in the sense of culture, but in the sense that there were animals of all kinds, any kinds. Nature that showed up as flowers, grass, seeds and trees, mushrooms and moss. Water that was sweet, salty and nothing at all. Temperatures that ranged from the coldest of cold to the hottest of hot.

That was what Davidson was looking for, though in the dozen years Davidson has been a part of being a messenger of the realms, he has not once seen such a thing. It was only known to be a thing because the ancient humans discovered it, once a long long time ago, by accident of course.

There have been a few instances here and there throughout history, showing proof of what the ancient humans have claimed, proven by some of the best historians, scientists and even well known everyday people. The majority never believed them.

Earth was even questioned, doubted upon, despite the remains of the planet being found throughout that realm. Davidson remembered his mother telling him countless stories of theorists who wanted to disprove the existence of Earth, and all planets like it. There were of course those who wished to prove the existence of planets like Earth.

Davidson grew with all of these stories, rumors and current facts around him for the two decades he's been alive for. And the more he aged, the more he experienced, the more he grew disappointed with it all. He started believing those theorists his mother called idiotic. He remembered her saying "It's foolish to believe Earth didn't exist, and it's the only one in all the realms with such diversity!"

He loved believing his mother. But sometimes, the facts just weren't there. Davidson, he loved, adored, the facts. His mind was changed just like that. And then he received a mission from his higher ups. To head to the realm known as Pyrcia that contained three dozen planets and five times the amount of moons and suns.

And at that moment, when he arrived to one of the better known planets- Sksk'kula, he gasped. He gasped with a childish excitement not even his mother could pull out of him when she was alive. He giggled like a mad man.

The stories of diversity, were true.
