“911, what’s your emergency?”

“Hello, I need someone to come to my neighborhood please”

“Okay, what’s the problem?”

“I was sitting in my backyard of an apartment complex. Just passing out some halloween candy for trick or treaters. And I see a van come by.”

“What did the van look like?”

“It actually looked like a blue faded, 1999 Toyota van. Seemed like it was a normal van. At first glance, the windows are tinted.”

“What’s the license plate?”

“Umm....mentomori.”

“Mento mori?”

“...Yeah.”

“I think it’s Latin for ‘Remember you will die’ but shortened for the license plate. Originally it’s ‘memento mori’.”

“Oh...that’s weird.”

“Where’s the van?”

“The van...is...in the middle of a roundabout in my neighborhood.”

“Doing what?”

“Sitting there but two people were going into a house, a neighbor’s house named Gabe Vizzini.”

“Do you see them?”

“Yeah, but they have black clothes. But I noticed shiny red streaks on them.”

“Red streaks? What’s your..”

“Oh shit, shit, shit! This is unbelievable.”

“What is happening, sir? What’s your name?”

“Adam, Adam Wilde. The three guys in black clothes have Gabe.”

“Please explain what you were doing.”

“I couldn’t sleep because the van was driving around. So I went down to get some milk. Midnight, wow, felt later. But I see the van from my living room, parked. And now I’m getting confused and a little creeped out.”

“What happened since then?”

“Um...I locked all the windows and doors. I’m just standing around my living room, thinking, watching and pacing.”

“Adam, what is happening?”

Silence on the other line.

“Adam, talk to me!”

“I...see candles?! And Gabe’s body is on the floor, with people standing over him.”

“Okay, Adam. I just talked to people at the station and we sent out a unit.”

“Oh thank god!”

“But it will take twenty…”

A glass shatters in a house.

“Oh fuck! That’s not good, not good”

“Adam, what was the crash?”

“Adam, talk to me! What is happening in your neighborhood?”

“The people are dragging Gabe’s body out of the window. Gabe’s my next-door neighbor.”

“Why not the door?”

“I...think the body is...floating?! What the fuck!”

“Floating? Like in movies and tv shows?”

“Yeah, holy crap!”

“What?”

“My neighbor, Gabe, he went into the van. What should I do?”

“Stay in your house, Adam! The police are coming.”

“I see smoke coming from Gabe’s house.”

“The black robe people have their arms raised and chanting something. Listen.”

Weird chanting that is hard to make out is heard.

“What is that, dispatch?”

“I don’t know, my name’s Scott, Scott Wind.”

“Okay Scott, what do you know about cults and/or unexplained mysteries?”

“Very little, but I never heard anything like that.”

“How long have you been doing this, Scott?”

“A few months, never heard anything like this.”

A doorbell goes off.

“They’re ringing the doorbell. Why?”

“I don’t know, Adam. Adam, is the door locked?”

“Yep, everything is locked.”

A high pitched scream is heard.

“Adam, what was that?”

“Uh...A woman’s scream….very skinny woman with a smile.”

“Adam, run and hide!”

“Okay…”

More screaming and banging on the door.

“What’s going, Adam? Talk to me!”

“I think they are trying to break into the house. I have a box with a combination of it.”

“Is it something that you can defend yourself with?”

“Y-y-yeah, my father’s gun. Oh god.”

A door breaks open, and glasses shatter.

“I got the gun, I’m going into my attic.”

“Okay, the good job Adam.”

Various footsteps and rummaging through stuff can be heard.

“What’s that noise?”

“They must be looking for me.”

“Adam, just stay quiet. Is the gun loaded?”

“Mmm-hmm”

“Good, remain quiet. The cops are ten minutes away. Just remain...”

“Smoke.”

“What?!”

“I smell smoke.”

“Adam, get the hell out there!!”

A loud thump and a yelp of pain are heard.

“Adam, what happened?”

“I fell off the ladder, the house is on fire!”

“Get out of there!”

Running, screaming from fire and wood crackling is heard.

“I’m out. I got out of the house.”

A choke up sob is heard with Adam breathing a sigh of relief.

“Great. Cops are almost there.”

“They’re here.”

“Who are they?”

Shots are fired along with screaming.

“Get away from me! They’re not humans, they're something else.”

A shot is heard.

“Adam, talk to me! What is the noise?”

A different voice comes on the line.

“Death will be at your door.”

“Adam?”

The line goes dead. The cops and forensics didn’t find anything except two houses that were on fire. But the other houses remain untouched.
