Drama Mystery Teens & Young Adult

This story contains themes or mentions of physical violence, gore, or abuse.

Nelson Long was a decent 19 year old boy with his ordinary life and parents. He had a good life in school and was popular because of his handsome looks. Also because of his knowledge, all his friends asked him for advice on how to do some questions. He wasn’t a bully and neither were his friends. They all may seem like bad boys but they have a sweet heart, especially Nelson. His parent were Lauren Long and James Long. Nelson was an only child with no siblings. His parent were very wealthy people and they always taught Nelson to treat others the way he wanted to be treated. But he had no idea who his parent were yet…. On a quiet and silent December evening, Nelson was driving his Honda civic down the muted road for a long drive around the City. After accidentally driving into a neighbourhood, he drove around the beautiful and detached houses which were quite small but very cosy looking on the outside. The silence the neighbourhood gave to Nelson wasn’t uncomfortable by put instead it was peaceful and comforting. After driving around the red bricked houses trying to find an exit, for what seemed like ours, Nelson finally found an exit which led to the -not so comforting woods-. Nelson had no choice but to go into the woods with his car and try to find another road connecting to it. As he drove into the woods, his guts gave him an un-comforting feeling, which told him not to go in there. Unfortunately, he went to far into the woods without even realising it. He tried to use the map on his phone to try and find a way out but sadly there was no service. Nelson cursed under his breath as he climbed onto his car stretching his phone out for some service, but to his luck the wasn’t any. Nelson could only think to call his parents but as he was just about to call them he stopped for a minute to think. He thought his parents might be exhausted from work and maybe sleeping. Still, just in case they weren’t he still called them but as he had expected it went straight to voicemail. He just shoved his phone in his back pocket and went to look around the wood a bit to see if he can locate any house or road. Just five minutes into the walk and he felt very tired and weak. The cold December air was making it hard to breathe and his eyes, ears and nose were all red and his nose was extremely runny. He regretted leaving his car and thought of going back to his car but didn’t want to waste time and continued looking for anything that could help him. Fortunately, after walking about another mile or so, he saw some smoke coming from the trees but no trees were on fire. He went closer to the smoke to investigate where it is coming from. As he got closer he saw a small cottage in the distance and realised that is where the smoke was coming from. An excited smile appeared on bright red face as he beamed with joy. He walked as quick as he could to the small, humble cottage. The cottage gave a cosy vibe and it seemed to fit about 2 people inside. He rapped on the door and waited for a couple seconds before the door was opened by an old man, who looked to be in his seventies.

“hello, how can I help you?” Asked the old man, in a rough voice.

“Um, hi my name is Nelson and I got lost trying to find a soy out of this humongous forest, so do you think you could show me the way out or anything that could help me?” Replied Nelson in a shaky voice because of the cold. “Are you Nelson Long?” Asked the old man. Nelson widened his eyes because he knew his full name but stuttered when he replied “Y-yes, yes I am Nelson Long, h-how do you know that?” “This is a long story, I am going to need you to come inside so I can explain properly and you will get sick if you stay outside for to long” demanded the old man. “Are you sure you aren’t some sort of serial killer or murderer I should be aware of.”

“No of course not, what could an old man like me do to you?” The old man said as Nelson stepped into the warm atmosphere of the cottage. Nelson took off his coat and shoes and sat down by the fire as the old man went to make a cup of hot chocolate for them both.

“Can I ask what your name is?” Asked Nelson. “Since you asked so politely then I will tell you that my name is Ernest, Ernest Hemingway.” “Okay, um can I call you Ernest?” “Yes, you can.” Replied Ernest. “So do you live alone?” Nelson questioned the old man, trying to abolish the awkwardness. “Yes, sadly I do because my wife died due to cancer just two years ago” said Ernest with sadness clear in his tone. “Oh, uh I am really sorry for your loss Ernest, I didn’t mean t-“ Nelson said trying to comfort Ernest but was cut in between. “Thank you for the sorry but I don’t want to talk about that topic anymore” Ernest said quickly to move on with a different conversation but clearly trying to hide the pain he was in. “Okay, sorry for bringing that up but Ernest can you now tell me what the ‘long story’ is?” Replied Nelson, desperate to figure out what Ernest was hiding as he handed Nelson the hot coco and took a seat with him by the blazing hot fire. “Right, okay then, be prepared because it can be quite a shock to you” Ernest said and Nelson started to think what he meant by a ‘shock to me’. “Let’s get straight to the point, your parents aren’t who you think they are. They are very dangerous people and I am guessing by the look on your face you don’t know anything about it” Ernest said as suspense had filled his voice while Nelson just felt like he was a dog trying to catch his tail but in reality he was just trying to figure out what he meant by ‘dangerous’. “Wait, what do you mean by dangerous and my parents are the sweetest and kindest people in my eyes” replied Nelson with rage visible in his hazel coloured eyes. “Let me finish, so as I was saying your parents might seem like the best people in the world to you but they are deadly and not-“ Ernest was going to continue talking but got cut of when Nelson said. “Just get straight to the point instead of blabbering nonsense about my parents” Nelson yelled as he was fuming with rage. “Okay, you asked for it,” Ernest took a deep breath and said “Your parents are Mafias, technically killers.” As Ernest said that, there was absolute silence and none of them said a word. Nelson started laughing and replied “ Oh yeah, how do you know they are mafias and why should I believe a random person I don’t even know?” Ernest sighed and said in a serious voice “You may not believe me or know me but I know your parents, I have always know them and I have waited for the day where you’d turn up at my door like this.” Nelson was completely speechless and had glossy eyes which showed Ernest that he was about to break into tears. “H-how and why do you know them?” Questioned Nelson in a shaky voice. “I know them because I was their old boss, I have know them for over twenty years but I soon retired because of my old age and my health wasn’t in the best condition then. So I left the mafia force and focused on my health and my life.” Ernest explained his story which left Nelson stunned. Nelson couldn’t take it anymore and burst into tears. “W-why would they k-kill innocent people when they have a whole life to live ahead of them, and how would their family react? They’d be devastated to find their family member dead. Why do they do that, I-I don’t see the point in killing innocent victims.” Nelson stuttered because of the uncontrollable tears which came out of his bloodshot eyes like a river. “Why?” Nelson whispered the last word at Ernest with a questioning look smearing his face. “Well, I never said they killed innocent people, did I?” Ernest said in a way which Nelson could understand. Ernest understood that Nelson didn’t understand anything by the look on his face he said so he explained. “Your parents kill terrible people who have done bad to this world. Your parents have enemy’s and they hunt them down in case they did something bad. Usually, the enemy’s steal important notes or documents from your parents and then use the documents against you mum and dad. Trust me your parents maybe sound evil and they maybe deadly but they love you so much, so don’t think anything bad about them. As long as you are with them you will be safe. Yes, I agree your mum and dad kill and slaughter but they do this to protect their city and you. Normally, the enemy would go for the kids since they know how their parents would do anything for the kids to live. So don’t think your parents kill innocent people for fun and because they enjoy it. That isn’t the case at all, they just want to protect you and their city from any harm. Your parents were interested in murdering bad people so they joined the force when you were only two years old. Okay?” Ernest said as Nelson sat there trying to process everything. “Yes, I think I do get it but it’s just a lot to take in for one night” Nelson replied honestly and didn’t know what to say after that. “Yes, I agree this is indeed a lot to take in for a night but the truth was going to come out sooner or later and if I didn’t tell you now then it’ll hurt so much more when you find it out yourself. Trust me your parents are good people so don’t think anything bad about them. How about you stay the night and try to think things through, you can leave in the morning, how does that sound?” Ernest replied in a cheery tone trying to make Nelson feel better. “Um, okay and thank you for everything you have done, I really appreciate it that you are telling me all of this right now before I found out on my own and hurt myself more. Also I’d love to stay the night and do you think you could tell me more stories of my parents I didn’t know?” Asked Nelson full of hope thinking Ernest would tell him some things he didn’t know. Ernest laughed and said “Why not, there are a lot of funny stories about your parents which I would love sharing and one more thing, don’t tell your parents you know they are mafias. Just let them tell you on there own when they are ready and behave normal like you did before.” Ernest said as Nelson nodded his head and said “Okay I won’t and thanks for telling me that other wise I would’ve, and thank you for everything you’ve done for me tonight. I can’t say how much I appreciated it all.” Ernest smiled and Nelson smiled back and they continued talking about his parents and how they were in the past and Ernest told many more fun stories about them. Nelson and Ernest shared a great bond and they enjoyed each other’s company. They continued telling more stories and had a fun and memorable night.
