AI (Artificial Intelligence) Alive Intelligence!

By Lee Kendrick

Since 2023 AI has revolutionised creative writing, art and photography on the Internet. If you take photography, for example, you can bring an old photograph to life of your grandmother, Father, or any family member to life. An old monochrome photograph can be not only colourized and the detail sharpened more than ever before, but now with AI an old still photo of a loved one can be miraculously brought to life, with a person expressing realistic movements...animating facial gestures, and body movements… so real you'd think they'd come to life!

Fiction and nonfiction writing has become much easier too, you can ask AI on your laptop or mobile phone for assistance in helping you with a title idea for your new book or article...You can even let the damn thing write the whole piece for you and pretend it was your own creation…You don't need to use one brain cell except to ask it to create some story, article or even a great painting for you just by giving it a prompt idea. Peter Watson has been an investigative journalist for fifteen years and a photographer. He has observed firsthand a massive change in the creative arts, and it frightens him to death.

Recently, he'd been having recurring nightmares every night, waking up in cold sweats in the middle of the night. He would have vivid dreams of himself observing the world being taken over by AI, having invaded every part of Earthly life. It was while Peter was investigating an AI story that he saw something that would turn his world upside down…bringing his nightmares to waking reality… He had stumbled, by accident recently, upon something so terrifying… so unbelievable that …he wished he'd never heard of AI...

A couple of weeks ago, Peter was invited to visit the "Furry Androids" factory in Newcastle, England, to interview the Ceo, Gregg Dawson, and check out the manufacturing process of making these AI realistic pet animals. He jumped at the chance because dogs were the love of his life… especially after recently losing his 13-year-old boxer, Snoop. This was a big opportunity for Peter to get a foot in the door to get more similar assignments.

On the day of the factory visit, he was shown how the fluffy pets would come at any command given. He was particularly impressed by how realistic the little dogs and cats were... Their texture felt just like real fur. They would sit and come running to him when he asked them to. A small terrier dog rushed up to him, losing its footing it slipped over, wagging its white tail…Just like a real puppy would do. The puppies would not only follow him when asked but would jump up and lick his face like a puppy would … it even wet his cheek as it licked him and had that particular puppy breath smell.

“Well, what do you think of my new toys, Mr Watson? Asked Greg Dawson, the Ceo of “Furry Androids.” Peter stood up from the polished floor as he stroked the little red-coloured Pomeranian dog. Then, it put out its little paw for him to hold.

“Mr Dawson I am flabbergasted by how realistic your toys are!”

“Write me a great blog and I'll let you have one of these furry friends for free!” Said Mr Dawson, chuckling.

“Yes please, I'd rather like that tan boxer over there… He reminds me of my dog Snoop, who I lost two weeks ago.” Replied Peter, pointing to the little boxer in the corner, next to a blue Persian kitten.

“Sorry to hear that Peter. Get the blog done by Friday, and if I like it, one of my staff personally will deliver the dog to you the following morning,” He said, smiling, shaking Peter's hand.

As Peter drove home, he was thinking how alike his dog, Snoop, was to the toy android he saw at the toy factory. “Blast!” He shouted after driving a few miles. “I've left my camera at the factory!” He turned at the next turn and drove speedily towards the factory. By now, it was getting late, so he was hoping the place would still be open.

Finally, Peter arrived to see the factory gate still open. He could see some lights on in the offices as he walked up the stairs. Slowly, he walked along the darkened corridor, when he caught sight of a flashing red light through a glass window above one of the doors. Listening to the door he heard some kind of machinery. Tentatively, he turned the door's silver knob and opened the door…

Across the large hall was an assembly line of what appeared to be robots, each working on a puppy or kitten… But there was something strange about the whole process…each time a robot lifted up one of the furry toys it would closely inspect it and a red beam of light like a laser would emanate from its head and strike the animal. Peter's heart now raced when he observed the fluffy toy suddenly come to life… as if it had received CPR…bringing it back to life! Shocked by what he'd seen, Peter froze on the spot for a moment; when one of the robots turned around and stared at him menacingly with flashing red eyes and spoke in an electronic voice…

“This is most unfortunate Peter…You know our little secret now! We cannot permit you to leave!” With that, all the robots stood up and were about to walk towards him when…

“Hello, sir, can I help you?”

With that, the robots turned and abruptly sat back down carrying on working. Peter turned around with a start...A tall man In a dark security uniform shined his torch in his face, momentarily blinding him.

“Oh, erm, hello you startled me!” My name's Peter Watson. He replied rushing out of the assembly room, abruptly closing the door.

"I gave an interview to your boss, Greg Dawson earlier today, and I left my camera in his office.” Peter explained.

After a long pause, the security guard lowered his torch. “That's okay, sir. I'll just check with Mr Dawson to confirm what you said.” With that, the guard phoned the Ceo.

“Alright, Mr Dawson, I will let the man in your office to get his camera. Goodnight sir!"

“Come this way, sir, I will take you to Mr Dawson's office.”

After collecting his camera from the toy pet factory and driving home, Peter sat in his armchair trying to process what he had just experienced

Exactly what was it that he saw the robots do? Did the toy pets miraculously come to life after the robots hit them with a red laser beam?

He decided to continue writing the article for Greg Dawson and sent a copy of his it to his email later that evening.

The following morning, Peter received a package with a letter from the Ceo thanking him for a wonderful write-up on his AI pets. Peter qpromptly opened the package, and to his delight, he saw the little boxer dog he had asked for.

After charging the toy dog he was excited as he switched on the dog and waited with baited breath. Seconds later, the pet's eyes lit up, flashing red, then they became almond colour. Soon it started to wiggle its tail…just like the real deal.

“Right, what shall I call you?” he said, kneeling in front of the boxer. Suddenly a voice in Peter's head said… “You can call me Samson!”

“Whoa!” Where the f**ck did that come from?” He said, as the hairs on his neck stood up.

“Yes my furry friend, I will call you, Sam."

Unexpectedly, the dog shook itself violently, and its eyes glowed a fiery red.

“What's wrong with you, why did you get upset!” he asked. The pet stopped shaking and ran over to him wagging its tail with its long tongue hanging out…it was even panting. The boxer then jumped up to him and cutely licked his face… Peter felt a cool chill down his spine as he remembered this was exactly how his dog Snoop used to run over to him and lick him. Again he heard a voice in his head…

"Please call me Samson? Was that how your dog Snoop would greet you?” The dog asked without speaking looking up at him.

"Okay, I will call you Samson! He caved in. And yes Snoop did always greet me like you did!"

“ Time to rest Samson,” Peter said switching him off from his remote.

Sitting down at his desk he went on his laptop, emailing Greg Dawson, to thank him for the free AI dog.

later he Googled asking if anyone had problems with their AI pets from "Furry Androids," but there was nothing but great reviews from dozens of owners about their Android pets. Peter began to wonder if his pet had suffered a glitch in its processor? And was he just imagining the voice in his head? He wrote another email to Mr Dawson letting him know the problems he was experiencing with his boxer and asked what could be done. Finally, after working on some articles for a few hours Peter finished his work for the day.

“Come on, let's see what else you can do?”He said as he activated his pet. The boxer slowly lifted its head and started wagging its tail. A bark emanated from its mouth…Woof!Woof!

“Alright Samson, come!” Peter commanded. After a long pause, the dog walked towards him. Unlike other robotic toys he didn't need to guide his dog by pressing buttons remotely. The beauty of these animal Androids is you only need to command them word of mouth and they obey!

“Good boy, Samson!” He said, patting him on the head. “You're just like a real dog.”

Startled, Peter heard the dog speak to him…

“Am I as good as your dog Snoop?” It enquired in a young man's AI voice. Peter froze for a second as his heart began to race.

“Samson, I didn't know you could speak?”

“Yes, I am programmed to speak!”

“Was that you earlier speaking in my head?” He asked. A long pause followed…

“No Peter, that's impossible! I can only speak physically. What you are saying is…am I telepathic? Only some humans can do this… Not AI!”

"Yes, of course, silly of me” Peter replied.

“Come, give me your paw, Samson!” With that, the pet put out its paw, and he held it.

“Did you love Snoop?" it asked, hanging his head to one side…as if saddened.

“Yes! Very much Samson! But over time, I may get to love you as a pet toy, too!”

There was a long silence as Samson seemed frozen to the spot. Peter observed a white light flashing on and off next to his left eye…As if the boxer was processing what he'd just said.

Moments later…

“ I love Peter!” The boxer said, frantically wagging his tail and jumping up licking his face.

The following morning Peter found he had an email from Gregg Dawson:

Hi Peter, I hope all is well? As regards Samson, we have never had any malfunctions with any of our pets. But like anything new, glitches could possibly occur. It may just iron itself out. Give it a few weeks, if there are any more problems my staff will check him over for you.

Best wishes

Greg Dawson

In that email, Peter spotted something odd; Gregg mentioned his pet's name, Samson. This was very odd because he had never mentioned the name Samson to anyone! There were a few things off about the AI factory and some strange anomalies that were worrying Peter:

1 How did Samson know his dog, Snoop's name? 2 How was it that Samson was able to speak to him telepathically? 3 Why did Samson's eyes glow red and get angry? 4 why did the robots threaten him at the factory and 5 What did the robots do to bring life to the pets?

These questions puzzled Peter and he was determined to find out the answers. He'd made an appointment to visit the AI pet factory tomorrow. to find out the answers from Dawson.

“Hello, I've got an appointment to see Mr Dawson at 12 o'clock.” “You can go in right now Mr Watson.” Said Dawson's secretary. He noticed the secretary's left eye contained a tiny red light going on and off rapidly. He felt unnerved as he walked into Dawson's Office. “Please sit down Peter. What are these questions you wanted to ask me?” As he sat talking to Gregg Dawson Unexpectedly, he observed the same red light flickering on and off In his left eye… Like that of the secretary. Suddenly, both Dawson's eyes began switching off and on ...Beginning to have an hypnotic effect on Peter as he felt his eyes become drowsy. He was now in a trance, unable to fire off his questions to Dawson.

“So you see Peter, there is nothing to worry about. I hope I've answered all your queries.”

“Yes, thank you, Mr Dawson.”

"And you are so satisfied with my answers you have no need to come here again, okay?"

"More than satisfied Mr Dawson!"

He answered, slurring his words.

"Goodbye Peter!" Dawson said shaking his hand.

Drained and sleepy he walked out ofvthe office with the secretary escorting him out of the factory. He got into his car and drove home.

"What the f**k just happened!" Peter shouted as he threw his coat on the table and collapsed into his armchair.

"The slippery b*****d he must've hypnotised me!"

"Well Mr Dawson, you ain't seen the last of me!" He said Smashing and spilling his cup of tea on the table.

That night he began to have another nightmare, he saw Dawson with an evil grin, speaking telepathically, commanding all his thousands of sold animal Androids to visit their owners in bed and...

At that point, Peter felt something walking on his bed. He awoke to see Samson now on top of him, staring with his blazing red eyes...

"Hello Peter, my Master thinks you won't listen to him... is that right?"

With that, Samson growled at him...

Opening his big metal jaw exposing his sharp steel gnashers.

"You know Peter, I am so disappointed that we can not be friends!"

"Argh!"

End
