Seven days had passed since Sofia had passed away. Emily still couldn’t believe it, but she was holding it strong. She arrived at the little island a few minutes away from her hometown, it only took her one small trip on a rented boat to get there. A sense of nostalgia washed over her. It was a place where they had often had adventures, a place where they had imagined creating countless memories. She found herself standing in awe of the beauty that surrounded her. The place held a serene atmosphere, with gentle whispers of the wind and a sense of tranquility that seemed to embrace her soul. Tears welled up in her eyes, but this time they were tears of both joy and sadness.
As Emily stepped foot in that familiar spot, she couldn't believe her eyes. There, standing before her, was Sofia. She was alive and well, with a mischievous smile on her face. Emily's heart skipped a beat, and she could not help but let out a gasp of surprise.
"You didn't think you could get rid of me that easily, did you?"
"Sofia, but how? " Emily said hardly containing the tears.
"It’s not the time to explain right now, but let's just enjoy today before the sun comes down" Sofia laughed "We have a lot to remember" They hugged each other tightly, their laughter intertwining with tears of joy. It was a reunion that neither of them had ever anticipated.
As the hours passed, Emily and Sofia sat beneath the shade of an old oak tree, reminiscing about their adventures growing up. Every memory came rushing back.
"Remember that time we decided to ditch school and go on a spontaneous adventure?" Emily said, her voice filled with nostalgia.
Sofia chuckled, her voice loud and clear. "Oh, how could I forget? We thought we were so rebellious, sneaking out and exploring the world beyond those classroom walls. It was such a thrilling experience."
Their conversation continued, weaving through the stories of their escapades at summer camp, where they had formed an unbreakable bond, and the times they stood up to the popular girls, defending each other with unwavering loyalty.
"And how about that homecoming dance?" Emily asked a hint of excitement in her voice. "We spent hours picking out the perfect dresses, dancing the night away, and creating memories that it’s hard to realize how long ago it had happened."
Sofia laughed; her voice filled with joy. "We were the queens of the dance floor that night! I'll never forget the look on our classmates' faces when we stole the show with our killer moves."
As they reminisced, Emily's mind wandered to the day they exchanged friendship bracelets, sealing their bond forever. She could almost feel the weight of the bracelet on her wrist, a physical reminder of the love and support they shared.
"And those countless sleepovers we had," Emily said, a fondness in her voice. "Staying up all night, telling secrets, and dreaming about our future. We were so young."
Their conversation then shifted to the day they graduated from high school, a mix of excitement and uncertainty filling the air.
"I can't believe we made it through high school," Emily said, her voice tinged with pride. "We faced so many obstacles, but we never gave up. And now, we're ready to take on the world."
Sofia's voice softened, "Those were some of the best moments of my life, Emily. We grew up together, faced challenges together, and always had each other's backs. I'm so grateful for our friendship." Her eyes turned sadder.
"Why do you suddenly look so down? " Emily asked as she noticed how fast time had passed, and now the sunset was almost gone.
As Emily sat in that special place, surrounded by the memories of their shared experiences, she felt Sofia's presence more strongly than ever. Though they had finished high school and ventured into adulthood, their bond would continue to be an anchor in their lives, reminding them of the strength and love they had for each other.
Sofia reached out and held Emily's hand "Please, promise me that you'll remember our laughter, our adventures, and the love we've shared. Promise me that you'll keep me alive in your heart."
Emily's voice trembled, tears streaming down her face. "I promise. I will hold onto our memories with every fiber of my being. You will forever be a part of me, you will always be my best friend, but what is wrong? You fooled us all, you alive" Emily said multiple times, staring at the sad face of Sofia, forcing a smile while she kept trying to hold her tears back.
"I wish it was that easy, I just needed to say goodbye because I didn’t have a chance to do it before the accident" Sofia added.
"I don’t understand" Emily looked at the ray of the sun just seconds before it disappeared.
"You will understand soon" Sofia "For now, just hug me my dear friend" She held Emily's shoulders as tight as her arms could hold. They held onto each other tightly, finding solace in their friendship and the bond they had cultivated over the years.
The sun set, casting a warm golden glow over the landscape. Emily's heart swelled with happiness, feeling a sense of contentment she hadn't felt in years. But just as the last rays of sunlight kissed the horizon, Emily's eyes fluttered open, and she found herself back in her room lying in her bed.
Realization hit her like a wave crashing against the shore. It had all been a dream. A bittersweet wave of emotions washed over her, and tears streamed down her face. Although it was just a dream, it felt so real, so vivid.
Later that same day, she traveled to the same place she dreamed of. Hoping, that this time she would find her dear friend, for real. With a mix of anticipation and sadness, Emily embarked on her journey once again. When she arrived, as she walked along the familiar path, the dream of Sofia flooded her mind. The laughter, the tears, the shared adventures — they felt so real as if Sofia had been right there beside her.
"Was it really just a dream? " she wondered.
Emily found a quiet spot near a babbling brook and sat down, allowing herself to fully embrace her emotions. She cried for the loss of her dear friend, she wished she had been there with her thinking she could have stopped the accident. She cried when she understood that that dream, was the way her dear friend got to say goodbye.
With one last look at the beautiful scenery, immersed in memories of Sofia, she couldn't help but smile at the mischievous adventures they had shared. She imagined Sofia beside her, laughing and reminiscing about their childhood.
"Goodbye Sofia," she said as she stood up and walked back home imagining that her friend answered back.
"Goodbye Emily"

You document the emotional connections between these two women well. The reminisces pull the reader into the story. The writing flows nicely and has an airy feeling. The ending was a little predictable. May have had another twist other than a dream but that's just a suggestion. Over all, strong work!
