Coming of Age

Be careful what you wish for.

When Seeta asked Rama to catch the golden deer for her, she didn't know Ravana would carry her away.

Whatever it maybe, in her next birth, was that why Krishna would come sparingly to his Radha, tormenting her when he was away so that there would be no golden deer she would run after, so she would just run after him so she'd ultimately be safe?

Be careful what you wish for, Poppy thought.

Because you may get everything you wished for and maybe more.

Myra had given her a wishing spell for her birthday. Wyatt didn't know it was her birthday yet.

There goes nothing, she thought.

I wish I could see my father and mother before they died, she thought.

A blast from the past hit her.

She was on the cot and her mom was singing a lullaby to her as she swung the cot to and fro.

Her dad announced, "I have a gift for our darling!"

He brought out two earrings.

Poppy involuntarily touched her ears. She had on those exact same earrings.

"You know she doesn't have pierced ears!" Her mother adminished her father.

Poppy's father laughed.

"Okay, we are running late," he said.

And so they went out. It was that fateful day they died in the car crash. She had survived.

Poppy felt her eyes water.

But she came back to her home.

Wait a second. The green powder she used to go back to this moment in her past was there on the table.

What did this mean? It wasn't possible to change anything in the past with the wishing spell.

It was then that she saw Danny entering the hall. In THEIR home. A little time after the crash.

Poppy blinked back her tears and said in a low voice, "What the heck!?"

All of a sudden, Poppy could see his full figure, he was carrying a basket which had little Poppy inside of it.

"A nice little witch she'll make," cooed Danny.

"Me? A witch?" Poppy thought to herself.

It's a good thing, Poppy, that I saw you making an involuntary spell for reverse ageing. When you grow up, you'll amaze everyone.

Danny left her in her cot and disappeared.

"Unfortunately," Jay said, as Poppy came back to the present, "he didn't see any magic in you since after your parents crashed."

"You knew about this?" Poppy asked.

"Yes, and no. If you were a witch, Myra's coven, who live near to your place would have known. But you were a baby when your powers showed and then stopped coming."

"Is this part of the reason you chose to turn me?" Poppy asked.

Jay shook his head. "That was all you. And the fact that you chose death over life," he said and hugged her.

"Now use what you have left sparingly," Jay told Poppy.

Poppy told Wyatt what had happened.

"Reverse ageing can be done by extremely few lucky and talented witches and warlocks," Wyatt thought aloud. "You can reverse grey hair to black and old cells to new ones, but yiu can't relive the same life again."

"If I were really a witch, perhaps I could have tried it on your parents," Poppy said.

Wyatt grimaced. "I don't want you to see my parents. My father is abusive and my mother lets him abuse her. One of the things why I became a warlock is so I could leave them and be on my own."

But still, Poppy wanted to see his past. So when Wyatt was away, she took what was left of the powder and said, "Take me to the past to Wyatt's home."

She missed a step and fell down the stairs.

At least that’s the story she was going with.

She had a large bruise on the left side of her cheek and a black eye on the left.

What not everybody knew was that it was her husband who did this to her. Pushed her down the stairs when getting into a small argument.

An argument regarding whether or not they should have a baby.

The mother wanted one, so much. But the father didn’t want to be attached to a baby when he had everything he wanted in his life. A meek submissive wife, a charming mistress and a day job, clubs at night.

Vivian knew of her husband’s faults. But she misinterpreted the smooth life they were living for happiness.

Poppy did not know she hadWyatten born to them.

…………………………….

“That bastard!” she said when the trance was broken.

Poppy imagined Jay saying to her, “Are happy you saw this?”

Poppy shook her head and said, “I am not sure. But I don’t regret it.”

"Robby kissed his mistress and got up from the chair, a cigar in hand.

“What gift do you want for your birthday?” he asked her.

The mistress laughed and said, “Your divorce.”

Robby blew out rings of smoke.

He frowned.

“I’m going to be a father,” he said.

“No, surely not?” she said.

A pause.

“What’s to become of me?” she said.

She hugged him from the back and said, “What if she had a miscarriage and Then you divorce her.”

“Sheila, she’s my wife and that is my child, whether or not I wanted one. You are the one who needs to go.”

“How can you talk like this to me, Robby?” she said, coolly.

“I need to go home,” Robby said quietly and left.

Vivian was in good spirits. Her injuries from the last fight had healed, and she was jubilant. No one asked her what had happened to her face. She carried a little baby bump, barely noticeable. She was two months along.

“Oh good, you’re home, Robby!” she said.

“I have made you mutton keema and rice,” she said again, a little nervous. She saw he was deep in contemplation.

"Poppy!" Wyatt shouted.

She came out.

"I am really sorry, Wyatt, but I wanted to know.

"What do you want to know?" he asked.

"Whatever happened after that?" Poppy asked quietly.

"Mom lost the child... because of his mistress who had come home and pushed her when she was almost term. When she was pregnant with me, she separated from my father for nine months, and after giving birth to me, she left me at an orphanage. When I was eighteen and became a warlock I tracked them with a tracking spell. Mom recognised me, and begged me to come back. But that wasn’t going to happen." Wyatt sighed. "So that's my family."

Poppy nodded.

Then she hugged him.

"Thank you for telling me," she said.

"So do you think you can be a witch after you become a vampire?" she said.

"I won't be surprised if you turn into one," Wyatt smiled.

Poppy swung her arm at him.

"Let's go," she said.

Jay and Myra looked on and smiled.

"Why are you smiling?" Jay asked Myra.

"There are rare cases of vampires being witches and warlocks. Just thinking about those two."

What would happen to Poppy is left to be seen.
