Fiction Happy Kids

It was Saturday evening and it was peaceful everywhere. Pam was supposed to get dressed for Peter's Birthday Party but she didn't feel like going. It was only in the morning when she had a program at the school and she was mentally exhausted from talking and smiling at strangers. She was an introvert so she wasn't into social event thingy. She called Eve, Peter's sister. Response came from the other side," Hey Pam! 'Sup buddy watcha doin'? ".

"Well, I wanted to.....um.....say something."

"What? Wait.....don't say that you are not coming!?!"

"I'm so sorry, Eve I am afraid I cannot come," Pam said trying to sound as much serious as possible.

"And may I know why?", Eve demanded.

"Well, you know.....um....I have to.....um.....babysit m..my sister. Yeah!"

"You have a sister?", Eve asked.

"Well, yeah kinda.....you could say she is my sister", Pam answered.

"Got it. Well.....fine excuse accepted BUT only for this time."

"Thanks!" answered Pam excitedly and threw her phone on her bed.

She stood up and went downstairs and pour herself a drink. She just managed to skip the party that means a peaceful evening with netflix and pizza. Little did she know that her excuse is going to come true well.....kinda.

It wasn't even ten minutes after the phone call, Pam was deciding which series to binge watch when her doorbell rang. She was a bit annoyed because she was feeling lazy but she collected herself and went to the door to open it. When she opened the door, she found her neighbor Mrs. Saunders along with her ten-year-old son Nico. Both of them gave her a huge smile and entered the house. Now, everybody in the neighborhood knew Nico, he was like 'The SOCIAL Butterfly'.....no.....'The SOCIAL Fairy' of the neighborhood. Pam was more of a quiet teenager so she finds Nico to be rather loud.

And then happened the thing which Pam feared the most, Mrs. Saunders said," Dear Pamela, if you are free this evening can you babysit Nico?"

Now you can't say no to your neighbor now, can you? So Pam had to agree to it. And she knew that with Nico around the house things are going to be a mess. Mrs. Saunders had an important meeting so she left without any delay. Nico, right after his mother went away sprang up and said," I want to play now."

Pam wanted to settle down first so she replied," You go upstairs, I'll be there in a moment."

Nico went upstairs right into her bedroom. Pam had left her phone there. He picked it up and started scrolling through it when he suddenly found some pictures from Peter's birthday party which was happening down the street. The whole neighborhood was invited but Nico's mother didn't want him to go to a party full of sweaty teenagers. He wanted to go there very bad when he thought of a plan and his lips curled into an evil grin. Pam came upstairs and asked what he wanted to play.

"Hide n Seek," he said without any hesitation.

"Fine then," said Pam and started counting from one with her eyes closed. Nico took the chance and flew downstairs. He quickly took the keys unlocked the gate and outside he ran. Pam was done counting, she was actually having fun trying to find him until she came downstairs and saw the main door open. She got scared because he was only ten and she was responsible for him. If something happened to him, she would be dead meat. Suddenly her phone rang, she saw the name which displayed 'EVE'. She took the call and believe it or not it was Nico. Pam asked anxiously," Where are you and how did you get Eve's phone?"

"Because I'm at the party. Find me if you can!"

" What?!?"

Pam knew what she had to do and she broke into a run. She reached the party like a bullet train.

When she rang the bell, everyone waiting for her threw foam, glitters, confetti towards her and gave her hugs. Her anxiety started increasing after seeing so many people but Nico was just fine hanging out with people he barely knew. Pam just went to a corner and saw Peter cutting his cake. She saw him unwrapping his presents. Many of his friends and relatives were at the party enjoying themselves. Pam always envied those people who can socialize with people so easily. She also wanted to receive a little attention but it always ended up being too much for her to take. Seeing their family she remembered that her parents would be visiting her the next week. Pam saw Nico hanging around with others laughing and fooling around. She knew that he was not supposed to be there and his mother had forbidden him. But still he didn't want to waste the chance of being a little more famous, the adorable social fairy that he is.

Before it was too late she bid her friend goodbye and with Nico in one hand she came home. She decided she was not going to tell Mrs. Saunders or Nico will get into serious trouble but she made him sit on the couch the whole time until his mother came to pick him up.

"You must have had fun right?" she said.

"Of course, we did." he smirked and I glared at him.

Pam bid her neighbors a farewell and looked at the clock and it was already past eleven.

She went to her bedroom and collapsed on the bed. She was exhausted from the whole day. Before falling asleep one thought crossed her mind,' I'm never going to babysit again in near future.'

With this thought she went to sleep and she knew that no one was going to disturb her the next day because it was going to be Sunday and she is going to binge watch all her favorite shows on netflix and she was going to sleep in and NO ONE was going to stop her from doing that.

Potentially interesting story. I'd work on creating more believable dialogue, because the cheesiness of it really detracted from the overall experience for me.
