An order day sun trying to peek through the clouds. All the sleepy houses not making a sound. No one is outside as if everyone quietly disappeared into another world. In our house my dad is getting ready to go work. My mom is getting ready to come with me to hairdressers. I’m going to be a bridesmaid later today. My little sister Marie followed my dad around from room to room.

“Daddy play with me please “

Marie was getting excited because we were planning another trip to Disney, her favorite place.? After her adoption becomes final we were going to celebrate at Disney.

”Marie “ my mom is shouting, “ please leave daddy alone he’s trying to get ready for work”. Marie is such a joy and my parents were thrilled to adopt, but at 3 years old she could be a handful. Her biological mom wasn’t able to keep her.

My dad is smoking like a chimney trying to keep up with Marie. He had stopped smoking when he found out he was diabetic, but that didn’t last long. He was 59 years old eagerly waiting to retire so we could travel. Adopting a child at that was hard, but Marie came to us when she was 5 days old and it was love at first sight. She had heart problems but my parents were allow to adopt her even though they were older. We were planning her christened and I will be her godmother.!’ I just bought her white dress.

My mom was 62 years old and fostered over 30 children. A strong woman with a heart of gold. Any thoughtful gesture would make her smile. She seemed to be the quiet one as my dad was funny and outgoing, but don’t let that fool you. My mom was always the one in charge and that was ok with my dad.

”When JB is up everyone gets up” his voice would boom.

As loud and outgoing he appeared to be he was a big mush. My mom was definitely the boss and sometimes I would want my dad to be stronger. My dad and I would disagree, but we always would make up. His way would be, “come on Diana let’s go to a football game” Since I wasn’t a boy he would let me watch all sports and explain each one. We always liked different teams, but that made it interesting.

””Dad you know I love you “ acting like a drama queen tears running down my face. “ Kid I love you too “ Hug, hug, hug ! This happened just one day before.

Such a simple statement would mean so much later on .

Then there’s me, 21 years working but not sure if that’s where I want to be. Today I’m going to be a bridesmaid for my best friend. “Why me “ I keep saying to myself “ Really I look ridiculous in this dress and I’m terrified. I’m shy, overweight and self conscious. All the qualities of not being a bridesmaid.

”Of all people walking down the aisle why me, everyone will be looking at me ughhhhhh”

My mother of course “ You will look beautiful in this dress “.I guess mother’s have to say that. “We’ll get our hair done and you’ll feel better “

Personally I’m not going to feel better be cause I’m clumsy and with my luck I’ll probably trip. Going on and on is not going to help, let me just get my hair done and pray I don’t panic.” I know she’s my best friend, but I can’t stand the groom “ Maybe I’m just jealous, but he’s obnoxious. The woman down the block does hair in her basement so it’s not far.

“ come on Diana let go”

“ There goes my mom again“

Hey Everything will work out I might just have a good time. Once the ceremony is over and the party starts it should be better. First they take nine million pictures. I do not come out good in pictures. There I go again.!

I should be happy my family is in a good place, renovated house and and new member of the family. “ Stop complaining Diana” to myself”

“Mom where my cat, where Aquarius “ She probably down in the basement. “mom make sure she doesn’t get locked down there.

“Leave the cat alone she’s fine “

”Diana”

“There she goes again “! I don’t understand why we have to go so early, we have time. There” no rush, she only down the block. Why can’t we stay home longer.

My mom is getting a haircut, my hair is in curlers waiting patiently. All of a sudden there seems to something in the air. I don’t understand what going on. People seem to be coming out of their houses, but why. Something is goin on, is it on our block?

“ Diana what going on, is it a fire “? “Oh my god where is it “.

“Mama don’t worry, let’s go look “

”Why aren’t there fire trucks, oh my god is it our house? “

a smell

smoke

people Running, call the firemen.

” on my god mama it’s our house, we have to get in. I can’t reach the house. I have to get there please help”

I can’t breathe

”mama where are you “ I can’t find her, I can’t move. Where did she go all of a sudden she was gone.

Where did she go, we have to get there so close but so far away. It seems as if I’m running in circles. Can’t cross the street.

People are yelling, I can’t get through. “ Mama where are you” I’m crying hysterically out of control. I’m able to see the backyard. Where’s the fireman ? I see someone on a ladder trying to reach the back window. On my god I see my father trying to get my sister through the window.

This can’t be happening , why aren’t we there, we should been there. Why did we leave the house.

Can’t reach them, “ mama where are you “

So much smoke flames there trying to get her please get her out ! Still trying to get her out. I go blank

The’re gone !
