This is a scene of three teenage girls who are the best of friends (Laura, Bethany, and Heather), all having a slumber party evening at Bethany's house.

“I can’t believe spring break is almost over already! It feels like just yesterday, we were excited for classes to be over and go home and spend time with our families for the week.”

“Yeah, too bad one week of break is never enough. I think there should be one month for spring break.”

“One month, Beth? That means we’ll miss many days of school, and we’ll never be able to graduate!”

“You’re right, Laur. Thank God for our senior year!”

“So, any guys that you think are total eye candies?”

“Oh, please, I couldn’t go out with any more high school boys. I’m so over that! I can’t wait to meet some cute college guys once we’re finished. They’re definitely more mature, and they have an aura of true class.”

“What’s wrong with the guys at school? Are they not hot enough? Tall enough?”

“Hot, tall… Every guy on the planet is basically that. Guys can be pretty… What’s the word? Sometimes, they’re just so… Ugh! You know.”

“Yeah, I definitely get what you mean. Guys generally do have a reputation of being so Ugh!.”

“Yeah. Anyway, that’s the story of my life with men. What about you? Any guys you think are eye candies?”

“Well, there is one in particular—Matthew Rogers. Man, what a real dreamboat!”

“Matthew… Rogers?”

“Why are you acting like you’ve never heard of him before? He’s the hottest guy at Midvale High. Everyone talks about him like that.”

“Well, look who finally showed up… Heather!”

“I’m sorry if it took me a million years. My mom had to pick up Tanya from ballet practice and from there, we’d stayed stuck in some traffic. Ugh, what a real drag!”

“Yeah, we get the feeling. Traffic is an absolute drag on a Saturday evening during spring break.”

“And so are bratty little 11-year-old girls like Tanya. Geez, little sisters, man. Am I right or what? Anyway, did I miss out on some of the latest gossip from you guys while y’all were awaiting my appearance?”

“I think Laura’s got her eyes set on an interesting someone…”

“You’ll never believe it, Heath. Matthew Rogers talked to me last week.”

“Um, the Matthew Rogers? As in…”

“Why are you guys acting like you don’t know him? He seems really nice. I even invited him over to my house last weekend.”

“You… You did?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh, cool… ‘Cause you know, we were supposed to spend time together last week shopping for dresses for the spring bash.”

“Right…”

“And uh, you said you were busy. Had to run a few errands… Which I didn’t know included Matthew Rogers.

“What was that, Beth?”

“Nothing.”

“Okay, I guess I shouldn’t have lied about that. I’m sorry. I thought you guys would be a little weirded out if I ditched plans with you guys just to hang out with Matt.”

Weirded out? Why would we be weirded out?”

“But anyway, it was really great. He and his father came over because his dad offered to check the sink of our bathrooms, which had, like, a leak. ‘Cause you know, Matt’s dad is a plumber.”

“Yes, I think we’re perfectly aware of that, Laur.”

“Oh, okay then. So, anyway, he stayed in the house all day, trying to fix the pipes and everything, and it gave Matt and me the perfect opportunity to be together and hang out. We even had him stay for dinner, which was great. Then after that, I showed him my room, and… We spent time together in the room.”

“Spent time together?”

“Yeah. And you know, there was a moment. I didn’t mean for things to get that far… So, I started undressing, getting ready to get in bed and call it a day. He, too, started taking off his shirt, and… Well, you could only imagine what happened next.”

“You guys… Did it?”

“It was like seven minutes in heaven! And you know, it was my first time, so… I mean, he didn’t really mind that I’m still a virgin. Was, I mean. We talked about it afterward, and we felt great. He said that he’s not really the type of guy to force a girl to do it with him when she’s not ready yet, and he also told me about some bizarre time he dated some other girl---whoever she was---that refused to do it with him, and he dropped her like she was nothing. So, I said, “Poor guy, and poor girl.” Like, what was she thinking, putting pressure on herself to sleep with him? You wouldn’t normally do that, right?”

“Oh, my goodness! I hope you guys don’t think I’m a slut or anything for losing my virginity to a guy who doesn’t mind whether or not girls are fast and easy. Do you?”

“No, not at all… Right, Beth?”

“Right. I mean… No, not at all. Indeed.”

“Oh, thank you so much! You guys are the most supportive friends a girl could ever have.”

“Okay, I guess we’re not really in the hugging mood tonight.”

“No, not really.”

“Um, is everything okay, Bethany?”

“Yes… You know what? I’m just gonna go up for a minute and, you know, get something. You know, I won’t be gone for long.”

“That’s weird. Beth is acting so weird tonight. I wonder what’s gotten into her.”

“Like you don’t know, Laura. You just stay put down here, and I’ll go up and check on her. Okay?”

“Okay, go ahead, Heather. Don’t mind me down here.”

“Cool, be right back.”

“Hey Beth, it’s me, Heather. Are you okay?”

“I can’t believe that backstabber! How could she do this to me?”

“I think maybe we ought to tell her about you and Matt. You know, so that she knows. ‘Cause let’s face it, Beth. I don’t think Laura knows that you and Matt had gone out junior year.”

“You’re right, Heath. We should educate her and teach her a lesson. Let's head back downstairs.”

“Okay, we’re back now, Laura. Heather and I just talked about it, and we think it’s time you went home. Aren’t you worried that you’ll be missing your curfew?”

“Curfew? What are you talking about, Beth? I came to spend time with you for the sleepover.”

“No, not anymore you’re not. Not after what you’ve done to me. Take your stuff now, and get out. You’re uninvited to the slumber party. It’ll only be Heather and me for now. Not you, so get outta here and go home!”

“I’m sorry! Okay? I wanna apologize. I sorta heard the whole thing through the door upstairs.”

“Oh, so now you’re not only a backstabber and a liar, you’re also an eavesdropper?”

“Beth, I think…”

“Stay the hell outta this, Heather! I can handle this myself. So, now you know the whole truth? Why don’t you go to the nearest payphone and give good old Matt Rogers a call? I’m pretty sure he’s the guy you’d rather be spending your weekend with. Why don’t you ask him to go to the spring bash with you? Not like we’ll need dates or anything, or that we can just go with our friends. Go on, Laur. Whatever makes you happy.”

“Beth, I don’t want anything to ruin our friendship. I really am very sorry for everything. I had no idea that you and Matt had a history together. If I’d known that, I would never have gone out with him or anything. I really messed up. I don’t blame you for not accepting my apology. Okay, I guess I’ll go, then.”

“Ugh, for crying out loud, come back, Laur! You’re staying. What kinda night are we having with my two closest friends fighting?”

“So, now you’re taking sides, huh, Heath?”

“No, I’m not taking any sides; I just want us to be friends again. Laura, you shouldn’t have gone out with Matt without us knowing, or lying to our faces like you did last week about being busy with other plans so you can make out with some guy who obviously stole your virginity. And Beth, Laura didn’t know before about you and Matt; now she does, and she says she’s sorry. You should accept her apology so we can continue spending time together tonight. It’s our senior year, and we don’t wanna end it on a bad note with each other.”

“I’m so sorry, Beth.”

“It’s okay, Laura. I hope we’re still friends again.”

“We’re best friends, Bethany. Always have been, always will be.”

“Perfect! Now you guys are good again, right?”

“Yeah, definitely! We are, Heath.”

“Now let’s get this party started. Beth, would you do the honors of making some popcorn and soda for us?”

“I’d be honored to.”
