TW: self-harm, suicide, abuse
There was once a woman named Elise who thought she could get away with doing anything she wanted. She had a difficult upbringing as a child, which in no way, excused any of her behavior. She went around treating everyone like garbage. She thought that friends were only meant to be used for her convenience and then tossed aside once she was done with them. Due to her behavior it was common for her to get into arguments amongst her friend and then once the friendship was over, blame everything that happened on the friend she was no longer speaking to.
There came a day where she was in a relationship for almost two years. During this relationship she ended up moving in with her boyfriend, Alex, as well as his roommate, Josh, and his roommate's girlfriend, Hazel. Josh had known Elise for five years and had lived with her multiple times already so he knew what she was like. Hazel had just started to get to know Elise and so far, she did not really like her. When Hazel found out Elise was going to be living with her, Alex and Josh, she really was not happy about it.
They lived together for over two years. Over the course of those two years, Elise and her boyfriend didn't always get along. In fact, they fought almost constantly, even over the tiniest things. One time Alex had a spoon thrown at him because it had not been put back in the correct spot in the silverware drawer. Many of these fights had to be solved by Josh, interrupting his time with Hazel. Hazel would look forward to going to her therapy appointments so she could talk about what was going on at home.
Almost all of these fights ended up with her boyfriend being hit and abused, sometimes worse than others. Many of these fights ended up with property damage being inflicted. There was one time when Elise did not get her way with her boyfriend that she sliced her wrists and had to be taken to the hospital, where she lied about what really happened. She was able to come home that same night as if nothing had happened at all.
The worst incident happened when her boyfriend came up behind her too quietly and she hit him over the head for it, giving him a concussion. Alex was taken to the hospital to be treated but the staff on duty were told it was an accident so no charges were pressed. Despite this, she still continued to hit him in the head when they fought. By this point she was starting to become unbearable to live with. Many fights broke about between her and her other two roommates about them not wanting her to be there anymore.
It all came to an end when she yelled at him in a public setting. Things had been quiet before and then she suddenly snapped. She started hitting the wall, trying to punch a hole in it. When that did not work, she kicked an impact glass door, shattering part of it. The owner of the building had to call the police to get her information for the insurance.
Instead of cooperating, Elise decided that she was going to run from the police and then threaten to kill herself. This led to her being baker acted for three days. When she came back she decided to be nice for a week before she had had enough again. It was while her boyfriend's two roommates were away that everything changed.
She hit him in public, on camera at a place that Alex liked to hang out at. The nonemergency line was called and an officer was sent to determine Elise's mental state, seeing as she had just gotten out of the hospital a week before. Elise asked for someone to give her a ride home then started to yell at Alex in the parking lot. The police were called and she was taken to jail to be charged with domestic assault. Instead of admitting that this was indeed all her fault, she continued to blame her boyfriend, his two roommates, and one of the friends she had known the longest, James.
This led to everyone of them getting tired of her and blocking her so she no longer had any contact with them. The only way she was allowed to come back and get her stuff was if the police were with her. Terrified that she would come alone because one day she threatened to, her boyfriend bought a camera to record the back porch.
Elise was able to get into contact with her longtime friend, James, again. She was trying to figure out a way to come collect the rest of her stuff that she had not been able to grab the day of her court date when she'd arrived with the police. She told James that Alex, Hazel, and Josh were all refusing to speak with her and making this super difficult. What she didn't know, is that James was in contact with Alex, Hazel, and Josh as well.
None of them were itinually making this difficult like Elise said they were. In fact, Alex had been in contact with two of Elise's friends, trying to figure out when it would be best for them to come and get her things for her as Elise was not currently allowed on the property due to a no contact order between her and Alex. There were some things that Elise was claiming they were hers, but in fact, were not. It took several attempts of bargaining until a deal was made for these items.
A month later it was time for Elise to appear at court. Alex showed up even though he did not have to be there and Josh was there to support him. At Elise's last court date, where she was found guilty, she turned to Alex. "I'm so sorry. This is all my fault." Alex just nodded, glad to finally have this all over. Now Alex, Hazel and Josh could once again live peacefully.

Hi Heather, I see that this is your first submission - Welcome to Reedsy! As I read through the story - I love the storyline and the way you wove in the prompt. There were a lot of errors that made me stumble while reading. Words misused, missing commas, and other things that can easily be addressed by investing in a Style Guide - which will teach you the conventions of writing. Just a few techniques I think you could use to take your writing to the next level: READ the piece OUT LOUD. You will be amazed at the errors you will find as yo...
