Friendship

The line of spirits seemed to spread for miles, slowly inching forward. Nobody was quite sure where they were going, or who they were, all they knew was to keep continuing forward.

“Hey” spoke a small spirit that emitted the color of green, to an equally small spirit that emitted a purple color.

“Hello” the purple spirit spoke shyly, almost at a whisper.

“Do you know where we're going or how long this will take?”

“No, I don't think anyone does” said the purple spirit with a shake of their head, the green spirit tried to look around the spirit in front of them to see ahead, with no such luck.

“What's your name?” the green spirit asked with a slight tilt to the head. The purple spirit didn’t answer for a moment,

“I- can’t remember actually” They said with a puzzled look.

The green spirit was quiet for a moment, before bursting out in laughter, the purple spirit looked on in confusion, as to what was so amusing.

“I don't know why I asked when I can’t seem to remember mine either.” The green spirit answered out of breath. This brought a smile on the purple spirits face, the two spirits locked eyes with one another, and it was as though a link was shared between them.

“Wanna play rock paper scissors?” asked green spirit

“Sure!”

The two spirits ended up exchanging all the games they could think of to play together to pass the time. By the time they ran out of games they had only moved five spirits up.

“Do you remember anything before coming here?”

The green spirit paused before answering “I remember my favorite toy, it was one of those round things with the strings, that would go up and down, up and down.” The green spirit tried to act out the motions with their hands. “ I can’t seem to remember what it was called though, but I know I loved it.” The green spirit had a reminiscent look on their face that quickly disappeared. “What about you?”

“Well, I remember my favorite meal, it looked like a square with squiggles in it, and it tasted so good, and I always felt warm after I ate it” the purple spirit looked down with a sad smile resting upon their face. “I wish I could have it again, just to feel the warmth of it”.

The green spirit floated over and wrapped their transparent arms around the purple spirit. “What are you doing?” the purple spirit tensed as the arms wrapped around them.

“Trying to give warmth, is it working?” the green spirit asked looking up,

“No, not at all” the purple spirit said with a laugh, but they hugged the green spirit back, “but it does feel nice, for not feeling anything at all that is”. They stayed like that for a few moments, both wanting the reassurance that they had someone.

—--------------------------

“Hey look ahead, I think I see the end of the line.” The green spirit pointed to where a big book lay with a giant spirit sat behind it. The giant spirit was directing spirits left and right.

“Do you think we'll be separated?” asked the purple spirit looking nervous,

“I’m not sure, hopefully not, I really wanna stay with you” the green spirit suddenly reached out to grab the purple spirit's hand. “If we do get separated, let's try to find each other again when we reach wherever we're going”.

The purple spirit nodded with a determined look on their face “ I promise I'll find you again”.

“Left, left, left, right”  The giant spirit looked at the green spirit with a raised eyebrow when they didn’t move.

“I said right,” the giant spirit said in an annoyed tone. “I know just one second” The green spirit gave the purple spirit one last goodbye hug before heading right. Both spirits felt more lonely than when they had first got there, as they headed in their separate directions.

—------------------------------

“Do you know where we're going?” the green spirit asked an older spirit in front of them. The older spirit looked down and said-

“Were going to the after life”

“Really? Which one the good or the bad?”

The older spirit just shrugged “well know when we get there”. The green spirit was torn, on one hand they didn’t want to go to the bad place, on the other hand they didn’t want the purple spirit going there either.

“I'll find them even if they are in the bad one” the green spirit whispered.

—--------------------

“And they said their favorite toy was the round thing with a string that goes up and down” The purple spirit explained to a nice older spirit that was willing to listen.

“Where is your friend now?” asked the older spirit with a kind smile, “they went in the other direction” the purple spirit explained innocently, the older spirit's smile suddenly fell, “oh, well lets hope they’ll be okay” the purple spirit looked up at them confused “what do you mean?”

“Well, we're dead hun, and either we're going to the good side or they are, and I don’t think it’s them,” the older spirit explained with a sad look on their face.

“Oh”

“If they’re going there, they probably weren’t a good person anyway, you'll be better off without them.”

Suddenly the purple spirit didn’t feel like talking anymore, they went quiet for the rest of the way.

—----------------------------

The green spirit saw a bright light ahead, it sparkled in the sun, suddenly all the spirits started rushing forward, the green spirit ran along excited to see where their journey had led them.

‘After I get there I can start looking for my friend’

With that last though, the green spirit disappeared into the light.

—-----------------------------

Spirits started to pick up their pace, this caused the purple spirit to look up from where their head was lowered. Up ahead was a bright light, warmth radiated from it, like the purple spirits' favorite food. The older spirit suddenly took the purple spirit's hand “c’mon hun, we’re finally here.”

‘I don’t care if they went to the bad place, a promise is a promise, I'll find my friend’

The purple spirit was guided into the light, with their goal in mind.
