ECHOES OF TOMORROW

Abandoned Train Station-Night

The moonlight filters through broken windows. The station is eerily quiet, save for the faint hum of the wind. A lone figure (30s, scrappy and determined) crouches behind a rusted bench, clutching a small, glowing device.

Camden (whispers to herself)

This has to work. It has too.

Suddenly, the sound of heavy boots echoes through the station. Agents clad in black tactical gear sweep the area with flashlights.

Agent 1 (voice cold and commanding)

She's here, spread out. No mistakes.

Camden glances at the device in her hand. It pulses faster, brighter. She takes a deep breath and bolts towards the shadows.

Train Tunnel Continue

Camden sprints through the dark tunnel, her breath ragged. The agents are close behind. Their shouts reverberating off the walls.

Agent 2 (shouting)

Stop! You can't out run us.

Camden smirks despite the fear in her eyes. She presses a button on the device. A faint ripple distorts the air around her.

Camden (to herself)

Let's see if you can out run time.

The ripple expands enveloping Camden.

The agents skid to a halt, staring in disbelief as she vanishes into thin air.

Three Days Earlier

The sun is high in the sky. Not a cloud to be seen. The city is bustling with people heading to work. Kids are going to school.

On a sky rise overlooking the river, Connor (30s, headstrong, determined) stands behind his desk looking at a diagram of a device known as the Temporal Stabilizer.

Connor (to himself)

This is a dangerous device. No one should have it.

A loud knock at the door startles Connor. He places the diagram under a pile of books.

Connor goes to check who's at the door. He sees through the peep hole and sees his sister Camden. He opens the door.

Camden enters. Connor and Camden hug. He closes the door. He looks at his sister and smiles.

Camden smirks at her brother. Connor shakes his head.

Camden (to her brother)

Hard at work. I've trying to call you.

Connor walks to the couch. He sits down. Camden follows. She sits in front of Connor.

Camden grabs her brother's hand.

Talk to me.

Connor is reluctant to tell Camden what's wrong but he knows his sister is persistent. So, he tells her bits and pieces.

Connor looks into his sister's eyes.

Work is going well. I'm working on something. But you know I can't tell you.

Camden shakes her head. She gets up and goes to the kitchen.

Camden (from the kitchen)

I know something is bothering you. When you are ready tell me.

Connor (blows a huge sigh of relief)

I will.

Connor (to himself)

I need to protect Camden for as long as possible. I need to tell her the truth soon.

Connor watches his sister, a happy smile on his face.

Camden unaware of the conflicting emotions brewing inside of her brother.

Sky Rise-Connor's apartment-Continue

Connor and Camden sitting on the couch talking.

Connor

How is your art coming along?

Camden (happy look on her face)

It's going great. I'm almost done.

Connor and Camden talk for a little while longer. Connor laughing at Camden's crazy jokes.

Camden is studying her brother. She knows something is off with Connor.

Night has arrived. Camden says her goodbyes. She looks into her brother's eyes. She sees conflict, tension.

Camden (a hopeful look on her face)

I'm here for you. We're twins. You can tell me anything.

Connor and Camden hug. He knows his sister means well but this is too dangerous.

Connor (looking at Camden)

In time I will.

Connor opens his apartment door. Camden takes one last look at her brother and leaves.

Connor watches Camden go to the elevator. He closes the door. Connor goes back to his desk and takes out the diagram.

Connor (to himself)

What am I going to do with you?

Connor picks up the diagram. He goes to his safe, opens. He puts the diagram inside and closes it.

Connor bangs on the wall, frustrated.

He walks to the kitchen, grabs a glass and pits himself a glass of whiskey. He drinks it in one shot.

Connor puts the glass down. He walks to the balcony. He opens the door and steps outside.

Connor (to himself)

The cool night air feels good.

He lays down on a lawn chair and closes his eyes.

The next morning

Connor wakes-up the sound of his phone ringing.

Cell ringing (x4)

Connor rubs his eyes. He picks up his phone and answers.

Yelling and screaming in the background.

Connor (alarmed)

Hello.

Connor waits a few minutes. He gets no reply and hangs up.

Connor walks back inside his apartment. He checks the time, 8 am.

Connor gets ready for work. Half an hour later, he leaves for work.

Connor walks to the elevator, pushes the down button and waits.

Waiting for the Elevator

Connor puts on his earbuds and plays music. The elevator door opens. He steps inside. Connor pushes the button for the lobby.

In the Elevator

Connor humming to the music. The elevator door opens. Two people. join Connor.

The elevator reaches the lobby. The door opens. Connor steps out. He nods at the receptionist.

Connor walks out of the building. He walks to the train station. He keeps looking back. Connor makes it to the train station.

He goes down the stairs but can't shake the feeling someone is watching him.

He turns around. He watches the people's faces. He recognizes no one. He continues down.

On the platform

Connor continues to get an uneasy feeling someone is watching him.

Train hiking its horn, the lights are blaring. Connor moves closer. The train stops.

The doors open. Passengers are leaving the train. Connor waits for them to leave. He boards the train.

Connor searches for a seat. The seats are full. Connor stands by the door.

Connor (to himself)

I got to get the device out of the building.

Three stops later, the train stops. Connor gets off of the train. He walks up the stairs and into the bustling streets.

Connor turns around to see if anyone is watching him. He continues walking.

He walks to Apex Industry. The uneasy feeling following all the way to work.

The imposing building is looming. He crosses the street. Connor stops in front of the building. He takes a couple deep breaths and enters the building.

Connor waves to the security guard, Mike. He goes through the security check.

Security check all done. Connor walks to the most secure area of the building.

Connor passes some of this work friends. He waves to them. He's approaching the room where the device is being held.

Connor hears two people talking. One of them is the director, Mercy Graves and the second person is called Agent 1.

Director Mercy Graves (voice Commanding, calculating) The device works. It's holding steady. We can move through time and it will hold.

Agent 1 (unemotional)

Are you sure the device is stable enough. This is dangerous.

Connor (worry look on his face) continues to listen.

Director Mercy Graves (Unconcern)

I'm sure. We need to do this. We must do this. Tomorrow, we must do this.

Connor sees the director and Agent 1 coming his way. He hides in the next room. Connor doesn't see the device with the director.

Connor (to himself)

It's now or never.

Connor walks to the lab room. He grabs the device and leaves the room.

He puts the device in his bag. He sends a message to Camden.

Message reads

I need your help sis. I didn't want to involve you.But now I have no choice. I'm leaving something important for you at our favorite place with instructions. Keep it safe. I love you.

End of message

Connor quickly leaves the lab. He walks back to the lobby. he waves to Mike. The alarm begins to sound.

Connor hails a taxi and goes to River Side Park. Twenty minutes later, the taxi stops. Connor pays and leaves.

River Side Park

Connor walks inside the park. He walks to the waterfront and the last bench. He hides the device under the last bench.

Connor leaves the park. He walks a couple of blocks to a cafe. He orders a coffee. He finds a seat.

He takes out his tablet and begins to read the latest results of the device. He doesn't like what he's reading.

Connor (furious)

The device was used two times. One of those times the device almost caused a ripple through time.

Connor still reading, still furious

The second time the device was stable but still a cause for concern.

Connor finishes his coffee. He sends more information to Camden. He leaves the cafe.

The sounds of cars speeding has Connor turning around. Apex cars are coming.

Connor begins to run. A black SUV cuts him off. he turns around. Another SUV cuts him off. Agents clad in black surround him. They beat him and drag him into the SUV. They speed away.

Art Studio 1:30 pm

Camden is finishing her art work. Her conversation with her brother is weighing on her.

Camden (worry look on her face) begins to pack her supples when she feels her cell vibrating. She takes out her cell.

Camden (to herself)

A message from Connor.

Camden reads the message,. She's extremely worried for her brother. Camden calls Connor.

Camden (terrified look on her face)

Connor pick up!

Desi, Camden's best friend enters the art studio. She sees the worry look on Camden's face.

Desi rushes to Camden.

What's wrong?

Camden (tears in her eyes)

I think Connor is in trouble. I tried calling him. He's not answering. I have to go.

Camden rushes out of her art studio without saying goodbye to Desi. Camden hails a taxi.

Camden to the taxi driver

River Side Park, hurry.

The taxi driver drives as fast as humanly possible to River Side Park. Camden tries calling Connor again. No answer.

She reads Connor's message and instructions again.

Camden (to herself)

This seems complicate.

The taxi arrives ar River Side Park. Camden pays and leaves.

River Side Park

Camden walks to the waterfront. She walks to the last bench. She sits down and sticks her hand under the bench.

Camden takes out a black bag. She looks inside. The device is in the bag.

Camden leaves River Side Park. She goes back to her art studio.

Later that day into the night

Camden spends the whole day studying the device. She's still worried about Connor.

Camden puts the device back in the bag. She closes her art studio and leaves with the bag.

The night is cold, a slight breeze gives Camden the chills. Camden holds the bag tightly.

The sounds of boots has Camden walking faster. She hears more boots behind her. Camden looks behind her and sees a lone figure.

Camden (startled, scared, nervous) sees more figures clad in black behind the lone figure.

Camden knows who these people are. These are the people Connor warned her about. They work for Apex industries.

Agent 1 (shouting)

You must be Camden. Hand over the bag.

Camden backs away and begins to run. She runs fast. The agents are chasing her.

Camden runs to an abandoned train station not too far from her studio.

Present Time

The agents watch as Camden along with the device vanishes into thin air.

Futuristic City-Day

Camden stumbles into a bustling metropolis. Towering sky scrapers gleam under an artificial sun. Hover cars zip through the air. People in sleek metallic clothing move with purpose.

Camden looks around, disoriented. A holographic billboard flashes above her. "Welcome to 2145. The future is now." Camden is breathless.

Camden (to herself)

2145? I overshot it. The instructions said to go back three years into the future.

A young boy, Ezra (12, curious, tech savvy) watches her from a distance. He approaches cautiously.

Ezra (tilting his head)

You're not from around here? Are You?

Camden (breathes in and out)

Not exactly. I need to find someone who can help me fix... this.

She holds the device up. Ezra's eyes widen.

Ezra (shock look)

That's a temporal stabilizer. Where did you get it?

Camden (long pause)

It's a long story. Can you help me or not?

Ezra grins. His curiosity outweighing his caution.

Ezra (extending his hand)

Follow me. I know someone who might be able to help.

Underground Lab

The lab is cluttered with gadgets and glowing screens. An older woman Dr. Lila Carter (60s brilliant but eccentric) examines the device with a magnifying.

Dr. Carter (half to herself)

The tech... is decades ahead of anything we've developed. Where did you get it?

Camden (looking at Dr. Carter)

It's from my time, 2025. I'm trying to stop someone, a group of people from destroying everything. But I think I broke time instead.

Dr, Carter raises an eyebrow but doesn't press further.

Dr. Carter (still holding the device)

Well you're lucky you found me. I can fix this but it won't be easy.

Camden nods, determination hardening her features.

Montage

Dr. Carter and Ezra working on the device, sparks flying.

Camden training with futuristic weapons, preparing for a fight.

Agents from Camden's time appearing in the future, scanning the city for her.

Futuristic City- Final Showdown

The agents find Camden. In the heart of the city, they corner her, Ezra and Dr, Carter.

A fierce ensues blending futuristic tech and raw determination.

Camden uses the weapon to create temporal distortions outsmarting the agents.

In a climactic moment, Camden activities the device, creating a portal back to her time.

Ezra (shouting)

You're really going back? After all this?

Camden (smiling)

I have to. But thank you-for everything.

She steps into the portal, disappearing just as the agents close in.
