I walk out of my house feeling as alone as ever. I make sure I have everything I need for this forced vacation. keys, wallet, ID, clothes, credit card. Yeah, That's everything I need. I hopped into my car and drove away, the sense of dread and depression lingering.

But at this point, I was used to the depression, and I can function with it now. But the dread, was, quite new. I'm sure everyone hated the feeling of dread, But something was different. I felt scared, like I was forgetting something.

I knew it was too late to turn back now, I would miss my flight to the meeting, I was an employee at some corrupted corporate bullshit. But I didn't have a choice, I couldn't go anywhere else. I was stuck here, If I left, some contract would force me to lose all my money.

I fucked up by going there, but now I have to keep going, or I'll die. If I go homeless, the world will be in a bit of danger, because of what I'm hiding. That's when it clicked, I forgot to feed her. She can break through the steel-reinforced door if she really tries.

I couldn't go back now, It was too late. Now I had to fucking run to the opposite side of the earth, while she slowly destroys the world, slowly. It will be slow since it is just one, But she had a bloated belly and was more aggressive than normal. I think she was pregnant, and there were about to be a couple or many more.

I don't know this things biology, all I know is that bullets don't fucking work, they just fucking heal back up. I had to blow its head off with a shotgun just to contain it, I threw it in my basement, of course, she was smaller back then, only half my size. except now she towers over me, at least 7 feet tall, I can't check without dying obviously. She would eat me alive!

But she was always hungry, constantly crying, scratching at the door. Now I reinforced it with steel, but that's not going to stop her more than around 2 hours, and it was probably already 1, since she's gotten to the point of hostility. If she was really pregnant, then the world is doomed depending on how many she is carrying. But that also gives me the question. Where did the male come from? Was there a male?

[BEEP BEEP BEEP] My phone started blasting an alarm I had never heard before. I had just parked. I looked at my phone, which was still screeching, in a piercing sound of a sort of computerized alarm. It read,

{Warning, lethal entity discovered. Go inside and lock the doors, stay silent, and don't open the door for anyone. In the next 2 minutes, anyone outside shall stay outside, don't let them in, for they might be another one of them. They can imitate the sounds of loved ones, TRUST NO ONE}

I suddenly heard someone screaming, "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!" Soon, more people followed. They didn't know what was out there like I did. The fact it had no weakness, Whatever it hunted, it ate.

I jumped out of my car, sprinting for a random house. [KNOCK KNOCK] "Let me in please!" The door swung open, revealing a big burly man, covered in tattoos. "Come in, quickly!" Their voice was gruff and deep. But it seemed to echo a sense of fear and worry.

He practically pulled me in, His hands wrapping around my wrist comfortably, I worked out. But this man was miles stronger than I was, but I felt I could trust him. I stumbled inside, the big man, who had to be 5'11" at the least, weighing at least 260 of just muscle.

His curly brown hair seemed to float in the light, and his blue eyes seemed to glow. This man, despite all the tattoos, seemed to be a nice person. "Hey, kid are you ok?" I sighed, I hated being called a kid. I was 23 now. "Yes, I am ok." He chuckled, "My bad, you aren't a kid are you?" I shook my head.

"Sorry, but your appearance is quite young looking" I nodded. "Yeah, I know. My name is William, will for short." He nodded, "Well my name is, Reggie, but you can call me anything you damn please." I knew those tattoos were familiar. He was a gang leader, but then why was he so nice? Then I noticed, a tally mark on his arm, it had scars over it, cuts.

I saw him when I was a kid, but he had to be 50 now. Did he regret what he had done? Is he trying to change? Or is this a farce? He handed me a gun, a desert eagle. "You might need this, heh." I looked up at him, he was grinning.

"Why?" My voice was shaky, and I was afraid he would think we would gunfight, except I had never fired a gun before. All I knew, was how powerful some guns were, I knew the desert eagle was very powerful.

"To defend yourself from the monsters." He had gotten really close, and I could smell booze on his breath. I knew he wasn't drunk, but maybe a little tipsy. I knew the monster wouldn't reach us for at least 30 minutes, but if she was pregnant and gave birth, we would be swarmed, within minutes. These things infect like zombies, but they don't eat brains.

Well, I mean they do but they also eat the rest of the body. When they bite something still alive and it survives the ordeal, They thrash around, and their body slowly starts changing. I am not sure what happens next, I shot the dog that I saw get bit before it could transform, or even die on its own.

Soon I heard pounding on the door, but the two minutes were gone. We weren't supposed to open the door, but Reggie started walking over, then I heard her speak. "Help, please! Will!" My heart stopped, before thinking. I grabbed Reggie. "No, don't" He looked at me, in confusion. "Why not?"

I pulled him, "That sounds like my mother. But she died years ago" I watched him go pale, "So that's the thing?" I nodded, "She followed me." He stepped away from me as if I was the monster. "She? What do you mean she?" I froze, I had told him my biggest secret, My one chance at survival might not trust me anymore.

"Uh, It sounds like my mom. It was instinctual!" I said frantically, I panic when I lie, but he didn't know that. Then he nodded. "Bullshit,-" He pointed his gun at me. "-you said she was dead for years." I felt my heart stop blurting out "Grievance is different for everyone?"

He leaned his head, to the right and then left. several times, clearly thinking about what I just said, "Fine, sorry for almost shooting ya." He put his gun down, and the monster kept banging on the door, Then there were two voices. She was pregnant, We were all doomed.

The monsters broke the door. [BANG BANG BANG BANG] Me and Reggie fired 8 shots at the same time, I knew it was pointless, but I had to try. [BANG BANG BANG] Well, I suppose I went out with a bang. But slowly everyone will die, and no one will survive.

This planet is going to die.

Clever take on the prompt!!
I also liked how you portrayed Reggie: Tough, but gentle. Rough, but kind.
You did a great job!
I will suggest two things though...
1). Going back over it and fixing a few little things like punctuation and capitalization. [I know that's trivial, and a maybe a tad bit nitpicky, but I'm a natural editor, and I couldn't help but notice them :)]
2). The story might flow better with less language. I understand it did play a certain role in this story, but for future reference, it is a bit of a downer to see four f-bombs in a row.
Regardless, your writing has a lot of potential, Mr. Ryan. Good luck with it!
