THE MUTE GIRL RAISED BY WOLVES

Written in response to: "Center your story around someone who’s at a loss for words, or unable to speak."

Fiction

Running through the forest. Howling at the moon. Sleeping on the ground. Eating other animals is what I known my whole life. Raised in the forest by wolves is all know.

I am a human girl unable to talk, unable to form any words. I only know the call of the wild. My mother is the Luna of the pack. My father is the Alpha of the pack. They protected me since the day they found me.

I only know what they taught me. To hunt. To prey on others. To fight other packs. To protect my own pack.

I have no name. Sometimes I call myself flower because I love the flowers around me. When I'm alone in the woods. When the moon is high, I dance.

Dancing is my form of expression. It's how I communicate with Alpha and Luna. They sit and watch. Their eyes on me back and forth never moving from their place.

There is a deep, soul and mind connection between me, Alpha and Luna. They know what I'm thinking. They know when I'm sad. They know when I'm happy. They know when I'm hurting.

The others of the pack look at me with no concern in their eyes. Not Alpha and Luna. They protect me from the lustful stares of the others. They did ever since I was little, Alpha and Luna have the scares on their bodies they got from protecting me.

Tonight, the moon is high. I can hear my pack and the other wolf packs howling. I join in. The moon is beautiful tonight. I leave my pack and go to my favorite place, the flower fields.

Tonight, I dance. I hear footsteps behind me. It's Alpha and Luna. They love to watch me dance. I love to dance for them. The flower fields are beautiful tonight.

The forest has its own music. The owls are hooting. The crickets are chirping. Luna and Alpha are howling. I begin to dance. The movement of my body feel's good. I finish dancing. I look at the moon and howl Alpha and Luna join me.

I follow Alpha and Luna to the lair. The rest of the pack is asleep. Alpha and Luna take their place at the head of the pack.

Although, I love my pack, I feel like they don't want me with them anymore. That's why I sleep under the stars.

I love looking at the night sky. It's beautiful and mysterious just like me. I believed the stars were bugs that got stuck. I laugh at myself.

When I was a little girls, I loved everything about my life. I still do but sometimes I wonder who am I and where I come from.

I love Alpha and Luna. They are my protectors but we are different in so many ways. I thought I was like them. I'm not.

I never expressed myself to Alpha and Luna that I saw creatures who look like me who walk on two legs. That was a long time ago.

I tired to form sounds like them. I couldn't. I saw how they interact with each other. It was different from the way I interact with my pack.

Strange sounds came out from them. I didn't understand them. They amaze me. That was my first time seeing a two-legged creature. I never saw one again.

I use dancing to express myself. No sound comes out of my mouth. The only sound that comes out of my mouth is when I howl. Alpha and Luna taught me that.

I close my eyes and fall asleep to the sounds of the forest. I wake-up to the sounds of the birds chirping. I love that sound. I stretch and go on my morning run.

Running is freeing. Running relieves my stress. I run, run, run to my second favorite place, the waterfalls. The waterfalls is such a beautiful place. I love watching the water fall.

Being part of my pack, we can do so many things and one of the things us wolves love to do is swim. The first time I saw the water I was scared.

Alpha and Luna were with me. Alpha looked into my eyes. I nodded. Alpha went first into the water. I followed him. I held onto him until I was comfortable on my own.

Now I love the water. Water, swimming is my addiction just like dancing and looking at the flowers. I hear the waterfalls. I run to the waterfalls and jump in.

I go down to the bottom and come back up. I swim to the waterfalls and go in. The water is falling down on me. It feels so good.

I pass through the waterfalls and go the rock where I spend hours sitting, thinking and trying to form words.

My eyes are closed. My ears are listening to the sounds of the waterfalls. Then I hear an unusual sound I heard once before.

I peek out and see the two-legged creatures. There's four of them. The two to my right look like me. They both have long hair and are shorter than the other two who are taller and have short hair.

What are they doing? Oh no! They are going swimming. I hope they don't come inside the waterfalls. I watch them carefully.

They look like they are having a good time. These creatures are playful with each other. I hear another noise. Here comes another two-legged creature.

I wonder what those expressions are. I try to make them but I can't. I hear the nosies they are making. I try to make those same noises. Again, I can't. I move my mouth but nothing comes out.

The two-legged creatures are in my water. I try to stay out of sight. It's getting hard to do. They coming near the waterfalls. I move further back.

Oh no! They are inside the waterfalls. There are two of them. I hope they don't see me. No, no, no, more are coming in. What am I going to do I'm trapped.

I wish I knew what they are saying. I can't make any noise. Not that I want to. When are they leaving? I peek out and see them by my rock.

Alpha and Luna are nearby. I can sense them. I have to get out of here. I peek out again. They are gone. I slowly get out from my hiding place. I jump into the water and swim out.

I swim to the surface. The two-legged creatures are still here. I swim to the other side. I jump back onto solid ground. I hear a noise. I turn around.

Oh no! I've been spotted. I turn and run. I hear something behind me. I keep running and running. I fall to the ground.

I let out a howl. I'm being touched. I quickly get up. The two-legged creature is in front of me.

I don't know what he's telling me. I'm scared. No words are coming out of me. I back away from him. He moves closer to me. I shake my head.

I turn around to run but the creature grabs me. I howl in pain. I see Luna and Alpha running to me. They jump in the air and land in front of me. They are protecting me from the creature.

The two-legged creature backs away. Luna and Alpha growl at the creature. I bend down and touch Alpha and Luna. No words are needed. The creature runs away. Alpha and Luna comfort me.

My protectors always there when I need them. Never again will I go near those creatures again. No matter how much I want to learn about them and myself. I leave with Alpha and Luna.
