“Sarah” Sam’s voice calls from inside the phone in her hand as she runs into her bedroom and closes the door behind her, her body quivering. She locks the door and searches around the room before he eyes gets glued to the wooden chair in her room. She runs quickly to it and drags it to her room door, bolting the door with it. She stares at the door, her hands shaky, her beat, racing faster than she could ever imagine. She continues to look at the door, small droplets of tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Sarah? Sarah are you okay???” A familiar voice brings her back to reality and she lifts the phone back to her ear, trying her best to tighten her grip to ensure her phone doesn’t fall.
“Sam, Sam, he knows… he freaking knows” Sarah says to the phone amidst tears. “He’s going to kill me Sam, he’s going to effing kill me” Sarah says trying her best to hold every tear and ensure she doesn’t cry out, last thing she wanted now was the wrong attention.
“You’re gonna be fine, you’re gonna be fine, alright? Where are you now?” He asks and she looks around like she doesn’t even recognize the place.
“I’m in my room, I’m in my room”
“Okay, okay… Do you have anything in that room you can use to defend yourself until 911 arrives? Incase he breaks in” He asks and she looks around and runs towards her drawer. She drags it open and just like that the bright red color of her pocket knife immediately catches her eyes and she lifts it out of the drawer, pushing the blade out of its casing, she stares at it, a small amount of satisfaction and safety washing over her.
“I have a pocketknife” She says
“Good, is there anywhere you can place it that it remains hidden? You know, somewhere he won’t be able to see it coming when you attack him?” He asks and I place it at my back pocket and nod
“Yeah, done” She says. Right when she was about to receive the next batch of instructions from Sam, the door shakes and a voice screams her voice from outside.
“SARAHHHHHH, SARAH. OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR!!” The voice roars as the door continues to shake violently. Sarah puts her hand over her mouth, fear, flowing fresh through her veins.
“He’s at the door, he’s at my freaking door” She says, her voice shaky.
“It’s okay Sarah, just calm down and…”
BEEP BEEP BEEP
“Hello, hello” Sarah says into the phone without a reply, she takes the phone off her ear and stares at the phone before the screen turns on and she realizes the call had disconnected making her look at the phone with wide eyes.
“No, no, no” Sarah says as she taps her phone screen repeatedly, her breath steadily rising with each strike on the door.
“Open the BLOODY DOOR, SARAH” The voice from outside screams, slamming the door violently making Sarah panic. Sarah looks around before her eyes meet her bed and without any hesitation, she bends down and pushes herself under the bed, turning her phone screen on as soon as she relaxes herself. She moves to her call log quickly and tries to Sam but realizes something…
No signal…
She groans and slams her hand on the floor and turns the phone off before placing it in her pocket, maintaining silence while saying a silent prayer in her heart, the last thing she wanted was for her dad to find her. Well, he already had but now she had to pray for something different.
She had to pray that he didn’t do what she imagined after she was found.
BANG.BANG.BANG
Then silence…
Sarah waited patiently, for any sound to follow, for a bang, for his loud voice to echo and scream her name…
Nothing.
She stayed silently, nothing uttering a word or letting her hopes high for a second. She maintained her bent position without moving until finally, she gathered the courage to move upwards a little, enabling her peep at the door and stare at it with wonder and tension.
BANG
A large axe passes through the door making Sarah move back completely under the bed and use her hand to muffle her scream of shock and fear. She placed her right hand on top of the knife, finding safety in just knowing it was her but still she was clueless, she didn’t know what to do, if she was on the phone with Sam, he would’ve helped her make her next move. The thought of her being the only person that could save her life scared her but she knew she needed to fight to survive.
After creating a decent hole in the door that he’s hand could fit in, Derek stretched his hand towards the door knob and tried to turn it but felt the chair bolting the door making him chuckle.
“You’re one smart kid, I’ll give you that” He says before falling the chair down and after turning knob, the door flying open like it was pushed by the wind. Derek’s heavy footsteps echoed throughout the room, each step sending shivers down Sarah’s spine.
“It’s a pretty small room, y’know? How long do you think it’ll take me to find you?” He asks before he starts to walk around the room. He’s blood stained boots, the only thing visible to Sarah’s eyes.
“Where are you hiding Sarahhh?” Derek asks in a sing song voice while walking around the room. Sarah leaves her hand on her mouth suppressing her cries from coming out of her mouth. His feet suddenly stops in front of her bed and he chuckles making her shake. He remains in that position silently while Sarah stares too in anticipation of what was to come. His boots scoot back a little and starts to move away but before Sarah could blink, his head pop up and with a sadistic grin he stared at her face
“Gotcha” With quick speed, he immediately grabs ahold of Sarah’s hair and starts to pull her back out. Sarah, trying her best to escape groans, screams, and kicks but all to no avail. Derek without much struggle pulls her out and immediately raises her to his waist level and slaps her face, taking her back down to the ground.
“Damn” He says letting out a loud exhale “You sure make things difficult, sweetheart” He says and she holds her burning cheeks while staring at his blood soaked body, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Running around ain’t gonna save you sweetheart, it’s just gonna piss me off even more” He says before kicking her stomach, making her groan and lie on the floor. She coughs and starts to crawl away from him while he watches her pitifully.
“Where are you going, huh?” He says before walks up to her and bends down, holding the back of her head and slamming her face down to the ground making her groan and rest her head down, crimson flowing with immediate effect.
“Now, now. Don’t tell me you’re scared Sarah” He says as he turns her without difficulty, squeezing her cheeks as he forces her to stare at him.
“Why? Why… why are you doing this? Why did you kill mum?” She says with a bit of weakness and hurt making Derek chuckle
“The question I should be asking is why did you watch me do it? Now, I gotta kill you too. You and your mum were always nosy, always trying to know everything, always trying to be at the forefront of it all and that’s what got her killed and now, that’s gonna get you killed ” He says with a sigh before he starts to brush his hand on Sarah’s cheek. “My poor baby, and you were just about to graduate” He says in a fake tone of expression “But we can always make another one right?” He says and in that instance Sarah pulls out her pocketknife and stabs his neck with it making him howl and groan loudly, she twists it and he screams again before pushing him off her and staggering up, running out of the room immediately. She hears him scream her name in agony and anger before she continues to run without turning back for a spilt second. As she descends down the stairs, she slips and falls down to the last stair but immediately stands up and continues to run to the entrance, adrenaline giving her no time to take the pain . She immediately unlocks the door and right when she is about to leave she turns back to see her father limping slowly towards her, his staggering movements more intimidating than his healthy state. She quickly opens the door and runs out of the house, her feet taking her where she didn’t know at the moment but one place she was definitely sure of…
Safety.
