SUBJECT: Help with English 112 paper
Dear Miss Parker,
My name is Joseph Chandler and my instructor, Professor Sarah Devron, suggested that I contact you for help with my English 112 essay since you have been in this class before and are also now in another more advanced English class.
My problem is that I want to write my paper on the subject of researching why some people are color blind and what causes that. Would you happen to have some tips for me? I would be perfectly willing to pay you if you would like.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
Sincerely,
Joseph Chandler

RE: Help with English 112 paper
Dear Mr. Chandler,
Thank you for reaching out. I would be happy to give you some tips on your paper! I assume that this is an Exploratory Research Paper? Correct me if I am wrong. Feel free to ask me any questions that you may have. Here are some tips that I have thought of right off the bat that were helpful for me: Make sure you keep a research log. That is a running account of whatarticles you source, the citation for them, what date you read them, a summary of the article and then your response to that. This will help so much when you go to write your paper. I suggest completing the research log before you begin the paper as that will make the process so much easier. If I remember correctly, this essay was supposed to be on something that held questions of interest for you. Do you mind if I ask how you came to be interested in color blindness?
Hope this helps!

Dear Miss Parker,
Thank you so much! And yes you are correct :) That helps already as I was thinking to start the paper but I wasn’t sure where to begin and now I am glad I didn’t. On that note, when I do begin, how would you suggest that I introduce the topic?
I don’t mind at all! I am happy to share. I am color blind myself and that is why I have questions about the topic. I can’t see any colors at all actually so my world is black and white. It wasn’t always this way but about 5 years ago when I was 15, it was quite bizarre as one morning after I hurt my neck in a friendly wrestle the night before, I woke up blind and had to go to the hospital. They apparently couldn’t do much for me and over the period of a year, my sight returned except with no color. They called it achromatopsia and so now I can only see in black and white and shades of gray. To be honest, it’s kind of boring sometimes.
Thank you again!!
Joseph Chandler
P .S. Well, I guess that I gave away my age in all that lol mind if I ask how old you are?
Dear Mr. Chandler,
I’m impressed! I happened to see the time that your last email was sent and I am wondering, do you get up that early every day? If so, what time do you usually go to bed?
Sorry, I got sidetracked there :) To introduce that topic, I would simply write about how you became personally interested in it and what your questions were prior to your research. Give enough background information to anchor the reader but don’t overwhelm them with a book. I made that mistake myself when I did that essay! When is your essay due?
I can’t imagine not being able to see color! And I’m so sorry that happened to you :/ An interesting condition though, is there absolutely no way that you can be cured? Also, I think that boring in that instance is the perfect word to describe how you feel about it. It makes it more understandable and perhaps you should use it in the essay? Just a thought.
Enjoy your day!
Loretta Jeanine
P .S. I just turned 20 last week so we are the same age :)

Dear Miss Parker,
Hahaha well that makes me happy to hear that and yes I do always get up pretty early. Especially nowadays with all the college work I usually go to bed around 8:30 pm or 9 o’clock. What about you? Are you an early bird or a night owl? Lol
Okay that is all good to know and super helpful! My first draft is due tomorrow so I will be researching and writing a lot today. I will let you know how it goes and would you mind if I sent it over to you for some extra guidance? The final is due in three days (sigh)
Well, I’ve been to more than a few doctors but so far nothing. It’s okay though. At least I can see :) It’s definitely boring so I will keep that in mind!
Regards,Joseph
P .S. Cool!
P .P .S. Hey, my friends all call me Joey :)
Dear Joey,
To be honest, I feel funny calling you that but I think I will get used to it :)
I guess I am somewhere in the middle! I like getting up around 7:00 am and going to bed at 9:30 or 10pm, so not super late. I guess it just depends on the day!
I would love to read your draft when you finish! I am sure it will be good, you seem to be very literate and well developed in the vocabulary and I will be looking forward to it.
So what’s your favorite thing to do for fun?
Looking forward to your reply,
Loretta Jeanine
P .S. My friends call me Lori Jean :)

Dear Lori Jean,
Wow, you’re right, that does feel different!
Attached is my draft!! I really hope you like it and feel free to critique as I can use all the help I can get. I learned quite a bit through the research but I don’t know if I came away with much of a different view; which is a little depressing, to be honest. But thank you for the compliment!
You know what, I really love photography! Would you mind if I took your photograph someday? I think I would like to do wedding photography some day. I hope that doesn’t sound too weird coming from a guy lol
What do you like to do for fun?
Have a good evening!
Joey
Dear Joey,
I read your draft and I am quite impressed! As I may have said before, you have a way with words and it makes it very understandable. I can clearly follow your “research journey” and I only have a couple of revision suggestions to make. Number one would be to make sure that your works cited page is formatted correctly. In other words, you need to have hanging indents and if you don’t know what that is, just ask me :) The other one would be to beef up your personal experience a little more and that will help your word count. For example: when you began, you went a bit fast and I (as a reader) would have liked to have heard more about your initial questions in their baby stage, so to speak.
I wouldn’t mind that at all! And I think that would be a very professional and enjoyable occupation, not at all weird for a guy :)
I like drawing with colored pencils and baking and also rock climbing! (In the summer, that is :)
Enjoy your day!
Lori Jean
Two weeks and several emails later .

Warm Regards,
Joey
P .S. In case you are wondering, I have found a cure for color blindness. But I think my life is a bit less boring now ;)
