What's the Secret in the Society

Written in response to: "Write a story about a secret group or society."

Mystery Speculative Suspense

The secrets that are kept within the society or group never to be spoken or breathed by those inside, are the very secrets that allow such societies and groups to function under a shroud of mystery and intrigue.

On the surface the secrets are revealed yet not fully as they want all those to notice them by the various deeds and good works they accomplish, in hopes to divert the public's attention away from the inner workings and secrets that they keep and hold dear.

The Freemasons have their own history dating back to around the time this country was first discovered and settled, when the first president was selected and put into place, so that we then became an established nation.

Whether it is true about the Freemasons and all things associated with them, it is true that they may have certain influence and behind the scenes working about who is elected or considered for public office(s), whether on a local, state, or national level.

The Freemasons are one of the remaining secret societies that has both myth and realism tied in with their heritage and association behind closed doors. Various symbols and historical signs play some form of a significant role in how they were chosen to be used by votes to become part of the very history that makes what is presently intertwined in our nation's long personal history.

"How does myth or fiction ever find its way into the actual truth behind what is known as a mysterious and speculative society, when there is little or no proof that the myths or fiction has any basis to be associated with the Freemasons?"

The Freemasons, like other secret societies, have an agenda. The one agenda on the surface is one that is shown to help curb the idea that they are doing dirty deeds hidden from the public.

The hidden agenda for one is pertaining to builders or those who are aware of such things that refer to them as cornerstone builders in all structures they consider for being used in whatever location they establish a chapter of their own version of the original society, keeping the bylaws and documentation concerning the history consisting of fraternal groups that traced their origins to the medieval guilds of stonemasons.

Each member is held to a higher standard, is expected to keep all they learn and are shown at the time of initiation secret and their four important values which are as follows: 1. Integrity, 2. Friendship, 3. Respect and 4. Service. These four important values have remained the same throughout the history of the freemasons, never wavering, even in the uncertainty of the world.

Along with these four important values are also Morality, Charity, and Obedience to the Law of the Land. They are not a Christian institution, even when sometimes they are identified as such.

The stipulation to becoming a member is listed as being an adult male, must believe in the existence of a supreme being and in the immorality of the soul. Freemasons play an influential part in the age of enlightenment.

Many historical figures throughout history that were freemasons included but not limited to were George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Amadeus Mozart, Charles Darwin, Alexander Graham Bell, along with some famous individuals who were freemasons such as Colonel Sanders, Roy Rogers, W.C. Fields, Clark Gable, Harry S. Truman, Brad Paisley, William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Henry Ford, and even John Wayne.

Freemasons are devoted to their time-honored traditions being recognized for the many charitable events and fund raisers for helping the less fortunate, to participation of political history where the influence of their presence is felt on a grand scale.

They hold degree ceremonies for candidates called Entered Apprentice, then later separate ceremonies which include Fellow Craft and finally Master Mason. One must prove themselves worthy of being promoted to the next level, which the process could last for a brief time or in some cases a very lengthy time, depending on the individual.

The Freemasons have a certain handshake that only those who are beginning members and those who are long time members know and are expected to know, like remembering a military handbook on all the factors involved with being a soldier.

There are at the very least 8,500 plus symbols associated with the Freemasons and the stonemasons, as the years of their existence have changed with the changing of the times and transfer of locations and additional chapters being added to their large numbers.

Religious symbolism along with various cultures symbolism have played a significant role in making them universal, allowing them to be included in all beliefs and nationalities. Never excluding anyone due to their race or color.

Possibly associated or connected to The Knights of Templar or The Shriners, they devote themselves to being the cornerstone of justice, honor, truth, willingness to be true to what is part of being a Freemason and hold those values in the highest standards and regards.

To never bring shame or humility to the Freemasons. To remain humble and never forget the traditions and time proven time-honored values that set them apart from other secret societies.

From politics to movies and communications, Freemasons come from all social classes, from various backgrounds and upbringings, being part of the fabric woven to make them like a melting pot of men who in one form or fashion have helped in making this country great and to grow and develop into something that allows to be a guiding light for all who seek to find what makes them unique and established.

Within its own 300-year history, from humble and firm beginnings, which led to the present day of what has become a power to be reckoned with. One that holds itself true to all that becomes part of the ever-growing presence and distinct teachings which make it a proven driving force leading the way for those who may one day become part of their own history in the making.

Freemasons are for many that will stand firm through the test of time.
