Lyrical Dreamer, my pen name. The name I use for all my books. My real name is Quinn. No last name. Just Ordinary Quinn who loves to read and write about magical worlds and far-away places.
I love to write about all different kinds of things. I look out at the world and see a blank canvas. I see the people around as my characters. As the kings and queens. The adventurer and the hero.
I look up at the stars and imagine a world filled with unimaginable power. A world filled with robots and aliens, dragons and fairies.
I've written so many books. Best sellers and some that weren't best sellers. I've written books for children and adults.
My last book did okay on the best sellers list. But now my agent and publisher want a NO.1 best seller. I don't believe I can give them what they want.
I'm burned out. I need a reset. I want to do things my own way. I'm tired of my agent and publisher telling me what to do.
I want to write stories I love. Stories that make me come alive. I want to write stories the way I use to.
I decided to do something I wanted to do for a long time and that is disappear. I want to go somewhere Isolated.
I know the perfect place to go. The Silver Cascade Mountains. A beautiful place to lose myself. This is what I need to do.
I want no I need to let my creative mind flow through me. I need to let my imagination go crazy.
I pack my bags. I take everything I need. I get in my car and drive to the Silver Cascade Mountains. No one knows where I'm going.
Lyrical Dreamer, the pen name I came up with is a creative way for me to focus on writing and nothing else.
I want to be a shadow from the public. I want the public to read my stories and focus on the characters not my name.
On the drive to the mountains, I think of what to write. For the longest time I had people telling me what to write.
I'm on my own now. No one is in my ear telling me do this do that. No one criticizing my work. No one yelling at me to finish my work. I have the biggest smile on my face.
There are so many things I want to write about. From romance to Syfy to fantasy. Horror is not my favorite. I don't like blood and gore.
Beauty and spellbinding are what I like. Maybe, I can combine romance and Syfy into one story mixed with a little fantasy.
Here is one of my ideas. I can write about a crashed alien ship that is found in a deserted highway by a lady driving home.
She leaves her car and and walks to the ship. In the rubble she finds what looks like a human body. She takes him to her car.
The lady puts him in her car and drives away. She drives to her home and nurses him back to health. The lady tells no one about him. After many days he wakes-up.
She is not afraid of him. They talk and talk. He tells her about his home world and that it was destroyed. They eventually fall in love. I start to think that stories like this have been done.
I think some more about new story ideas. I look out the window and see a shooting star. I come up with a new story.
A young lady is looking up at the stars. She sees a shooting star. She wishes upon the star for a love like her parents.
The young lady turns arounds and begins to walk home when a sudden white flash appears. The young lady is startled. She stops. Too scared to keep walking.
A stranger appears. He tells the young lady. "I've been watching you for a long time. I have fallen in love with you."
The young lady doesn't know what to say. The stranger grabs her and kisses her. What she sees amazes her.
I like this story and the potential it has. I like the plot and where it's going.
I go over some more story ideas. A girl driving home on a lonely highway when a light from the sky appears. A ship comes down and takes the girl away.
No, that story has been told many times in movies, tv shows and documentaries. I come up with more stories ideas as I get closer to the mountains.
The Silver Cascade Mountains come into full view. The moon light hitting the mountains is beautiful. I can faintly hear the water flowing down.
I can write a story about two people getting lost in the woods. They are both in love but their parents don't approve of either one of them.
They run away together. Something happens. Their car stalls out. They both like camping, so they take their camping gear and decide to live in the forest. Here is where the story gets interesting.
The couple goes into the woods. They set up camp. They live in the woods for a few days when something appears. A door appears in front of them. The door opens.
The couple hold hands. Together they go through the door and are never seen again.
I like this story. I can take this story in so many different directions. I reach the rental property. The key is in the lock box.
I open the lock box, take out the key and open the door. I turn on the lights and enter. I breathe a happy sigh of relief.
It's late. I'm tired and dead on my feet. I go to one of the rooms. I change my clothes and quickly fall asleep.
The next morning, I wake-up bright and early. I unpack my belongings. I open the curtains and see the beautiful sight before me.
The beautiful mountains. The water flowing down. The beautiful trees. The flower beds surrounding the cabin. In the distance I see the lake.
I think of a new story idea. This story is about a beautiful siren who comes out of the water, enchanting all the men of the world with her beautiful voice. The siren is hiding a secret.
I like where this story is going. I need to think of more details. This story looks promising.
I go and take a shower. My mind running with ideas. Another story idea I come up with has alien dignitaries coming to earth to meet with its leaders at the U.N.
The main character is a translator at the U.N. She is one of the lucky ones who gets to be part of the historic meeting.
When the alien dignitaries arrive, she is blown away by how human they look. The meeting begins.
She listens and writes down every word that is being said. Surprisingly the aliens are good speakers.
The aliens tell the U.N. everything about their home world to what they want and need.
The meeting takes many days. In the end they come to an agreement all parties like. The world awaits.
I like how this story is going but it needs more intrigue. I will come back to this story another time.
I get dress. I leave the cabin and go for a walk. I need to buy food, water and other items.
I know there is a store not too far from the cabin. I walk their thinking of more story ideas.
I'm walking to the store looking at my surroundings. The tree, the birds, the mountains, the animals. I come up with a new story.
This story revolves around a family of Lycans. The leader falls in love with a human. The human falls in love with the Lycan. But the human doesn't know who he's really a Lycan.
I think about this story. I say to myself "Many authors have written stories similar to my idea. I like this story but it's been told too many times."
I reach the store. I open the door and go inside. I pick up water, food and other items. I pay and leave the story.
I walk back to the cabin thinking about everything I've accomplish in my career and what I want to accomplish in the future.
I want to write another book but at this point in my life I don't want to write a best seller. I want to write because I want to have fun. The way I used to have fun writing.
I want to write for my love of writing. For the characters and the stories I love. I reach the cabin. I walk inside, take my shoes off and turn on the music. I begin to dance.
I dance while I cook. I begin singing to the music. I love the way the music is making me feel.
My food is done. I turn the music off. I take my food and go to the porch.
I sit down and begin to eat. I'm still thinking of more story ideas. One story is stuck in my mind.
I watch the sun go down. The night is so beautiful. The stars are out. I look up at the star and see a shooting star. I wish upon the star. I smile.
I have my new story called "Shooting Star Wish." This story is going to be great. I begin to write.

Melinda, this was such a delightful little story about a writer and their process for coming up with their stories. Well done!
