"Wake up smiling!" Gwen told herself, as another day was dawning. Tomorrow was her milestone 30th birthday, there were plans underway for a celebration with her two gal besties, Bianca and Celeste. Gwen examined her hairdo, checking for any grey hairs. Her left hand was still annoyingly bare of that magical wedding ring.
Her son woke up, Ezra was a bit grumpy today. Gwen fed the eight year old his breakfast of cereal and juice, before loading him and his backpack into her old jalopy for the school routine. Then it was the supermarket dash, until she headed home for her flourishing desk vocation as a romance writer.
Immersed in this genre, the elfin-faced Gwen devoted her daytime hours to creativity. Her latest characters met amid a shower of quite risque dating and mating, most often a white wedding to conclude. Gwen's female protagonists held onto their faith in their happy endings, blessed by tiaras and an impressive, but magical sign of true love, that golden ring.
".....our faith in each other has kept us strong....." The newly weds embraced, bells chimed, doves flew, rainbows appeared to bless true love." Gwen glanced at the time. Another day had flown by on wings of love, and her own persistent faith in her good ideas and perhaps a happy ending. Her own as yet faceless bridegroom had not appeared, but her stories planted a smile on lots of fantasies for women.
Editing this book came next, but it was time to collect her son from his primary school, take him to his swimming lesson, then cook dinner again. Ezra was bound for an overnight babysitter tomorrow evening. Bianca had insisted. The whole birthday bash was to be a surprise, it would all unfold. Gwen suspected she would be tempted by much consumption of alcohol, chicks do want to have fun ideas.
Her 30th birthday had rolled into Gwen's eyes. "Is that your first wrinkle?" cheeky Ezra asked, as he brought her some slight.y singed toast in bed. She laughed, he was a funny future male, after all. Pity his long gone father had never done more than objectify her when she was pregnant. He was long gone now, best to keep her faith in the process, in happy days and nights, and somehow a happy ending. She unwrapped her son's gift of a new hair dryer, cool.
It was a Friday night looming, used to be known as "date night' when Gwen was a much younger version, so full of the future. Her birthday dates were Bianca and Celeste, who had long since taken Gwen under their wing, when they were the acknowledged queen bees in their secondary classrooms. Those two really knew how to party in any mystery night spot.
"Get those glad rags on!" Bianca sent her an emoji, along with many symbolic cakes and gifts. Candles were appearing on her phone, many smiles and good wishes. "Today is my unique day!" Gwen told herself, as she frocked up and styled her cloud of brunette hair, until it flowed over her shoulders. A whole lot of gals rolled up in a hire car, no one was driving that night.
"Surprise! We're partying at Stars!" Gwen was thrilled, being a writer at home looking after her son, meant she had only read the very favorable reviews of the trendiest nightclub in the city. It was not far from her humble dwelling. Excited, champagne was soon in their glasses, only few nibbles. Cocktails were not sparing "Gwen and friends", as the waiters were soon laughing with them.
The lighting dimmed, eerie smoke filled the club, the spotlight was on the small stage to one side. Caspian strutted, his tight jeans did not leave much to the imagination. He was only regarded as the megastar of DJ's. Soon his smoldering eyes and basically hottest music in town lured them all onto the dance floor.
Gwen may have been 30, but she more than held her own with the gal pals and the younger patrons. Even the wait staff were dancing, even the chefs did a parade, the mix was so hot, vibrating, pulsating, setting their feet a strutting, and Gwen's whole essence throbbing.
"Go, Queen!" Celeste yelled above the sound and cheers. Gwen did not pause, as this sexy DJ joined her for one magical tune. He clapped his hands to the beat, poured her a drink, drew her to his personal table, to share with her this birthday for all time.
Caspian and Gwen did indeed swap phone numbers, as he promised to phone her, for a date night done right. She went home in the hire car with the gals in the early hours of the morning, exhausted but on a high of hope. She collapsed, bleary eyed and more than a tad inebriated, for a much needed sleep.
"Oh no!" Only one hour later, the overnight babysitter had brought Ezra home, so the babysitter could rest. Gwen had no shower, blisters on both feet, her eardrums were still aching, her hangover had provided her with a massive headache. Ezra was renowned as an early riser, and noted for playing up on any babysitter.
Gwen later popped Ezra into bed bright and early that night. Just then, her phone chirped. Caspian! Did Gwen have anything left to offer him? Her romantic heart did swoon, chatting ensued, he was a charmer. Bit older, but still top of the charts in her selections. She wondered if that was going to include her future. A date night was done right the very next evening.
Caspian was really a genuine guy. He soon bonded with Ezra, over dinosaurs and remote control racing cars. Gwen and Caspian became an accepted item, he had been secretly searching for a family life. He was fascinated by his Queen of Stars, Gwen. His tight jeans and muscle shirts concealed his true love for her kind and hopeful nature, spreading happiness everywhere she went.
Caspian sang to her every evening. "You're serenading my heart again...'" Gwen whispered, as Caspian embraced her, after sliding the golden ring on her left hand. It was the culmination of her faith in happy endings. Ezra stood proud and tall, totally happy with this change in circumstances. Butterflies were released, brilliant music played at the reception.
After the honeymoon, even listening to Caspian cheerfully singing in the shower made her happy. "You're serenading my heart," she told him, Her magical wedding ring was that symbol all their faith in each other, and their happy ending in this tale of true love and romance. That golden ring was changing her future.Faith shall keep us all strong.......
