Coming of Age Fiction Sad

Warning: This is my first story on this app so it might not be as good as anything else you have read. I am an armature writing and I write for fun so yea! Anyways I hope you enojoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I pulled out a dusty box from my attic. It was the original attic from when this house was first built so it was very very very dusty. I blew some of the dust off, sneezing as I inhaled it. I cut the tape holding the box shut, then opened it up. Inside were some old clothes, a pair of shoes, and what looked like a scrap book. I opened it up, and when I saw the first photo it brought tears to my eyes. It was of me and my older brother. I was on the swing and he was pushing me. My mind went to a flashback of that day.

"C'mon Megan, my arms are tired, can I take a break?" Carson had whined.

"Nope!" I replied, turning my head and grinning at him.

"Fine, ten more minutes," he said rolling his eyes and smiled a little bit at me.

"Yay!!"

He had passed away 8 months after that picture because of a car accident. I looked at the next photo and laughed a little. It was at his 5th birthday party. I was only two then, but I remembered it a little. Carson and some of his friends had been messing around and he had landed face first in his cake. After a while of looking through the scrap book I saw a picture of him in this hospital.

"I'm fine," he promised, "no need to worry."

"You broke you spine, you are not fine Carson!" my mom had told him shouting a little.

"I AM FINE, EVERYTHING IS FINE! GOD DAMMIT MOM! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" he had shouted angrily, I could see the fury in his eyes, I also thought I saw a bit of fear to.

"Carso-," she started.

"Just go," he told her.

My mom left and it was just me and Carson because my dad had left with my mom. He glanced at me and gave a small smile which I did not return. I sat up on the side of the hospital bed and looked him in the eyes.

"You don't have to pretend your fine. I know you're not, you don't have to be tough. Boys can cry too y'know." I had told him, I got up to leave and walked out.

I remember that day clearly. He had passed about five hours later. I remember crying and not leaving my room for a while. As more tears came to my eyes and I sighed and closed the book. When I did something fell out. It was a letter, not addressed to anybody just signed...by my brother.

Dear who ever finds this,

I might be dead now. If not, then leave this letter alone. I have known for a while that I would die soon. I had leukemia and would have died sooner or later. After the car hit me, I knew it was useless to try and stay alive. I was going to pass on soon anyways. I hid it in here knowing whoever found this would be in my family. I hope you know that I love you so so much. Even if your future generations who have no clue who I am.

Love, Carson

Once I finished reading the note I realized the reason he had yelled at my mom all those years ago. He didn't want to spend the rest of his short life full of people worrying about him. Carson wanted to live it to the fullest, and he did.

I grabbed the scrap book again and went through the photos more memories about them coming back. I guess the note from my brother had opened up my mind a little more. Knowing that he as going to pass sooner or later and the car hitting him was just putting his pain to an end. The photos I looked through now brought back memories of fights, hugs, pillow fights, sleepovers, annoying each other. A lot of small things I had forgotten about. Small things that were the most important. Some of my farthest memories of me and my brother are coming back to my mind. From when I was one and he was four and we were at a carnival and he went on a merry go round with me, sitting on one of the benches. Who knew some dust scrap book could bring back so many memories.
