The year is about 2025 and the location is near Las Cruces, New Mexico not too far from a ranch and some chile farming. It was a bright sunny day with beautiful blue skies above and a gentle breeze that gently permeated the essence of the old west. You could hear the birds chirping while in the background you hear a couple of pick up trucks rumbling through as they hauled away some of the produce. Then there is that little cottage where Diego lived. Diego Martinez was an older man, 71 years young, retired and was no longer working the fields. He simply cared for mild chores around the property and helped to schedule the smaller local pickup and deliveries of chile's. He had been married twice before but was now single again for almost 18 years. He always wanted to be married but had some weakness in making the right choices for a lifetime mate. Both of his previous marriages were lacking the love that keeps folks together through thick or thin. So Diego learned to play his harmonica and his guitar to pass time, and he played some pretty romantic tunes too. But he always had these day dreams and yes even dreams while he had some sleep. Oh yes, Diego had sleep apnea so one of his goals was to get a good night's sleep and to wake up at exactly 7AM the next day but with solid sleep the night before. His dreams always seem to be about his true love. No, not just any good woman but Real Love. A love that would be his last and finally truest Love. Well, as circumstance would have it that just around the corner in El Paso, Texas there was a cute little “Guerita” (meaning: a light skinned woman-and the ‘ita’ at the end denotes an added affection) as he would later call her, was about to make a last minute venture to go explore New Mexico just for fun and buy some chile's. Wouldn't you know it! Her name was Margie O’Brien with the prettiest color in her eyes and radiant smile. The day came when Margie decided that on this day she would take a break from it all and drive just a few miles up north into New Mexico and enjoy the local scenery. Then , she remembered about what she had heard about the best chile's grown in the area were right there in the Las Cruces area. So off she goes and follows the GPS map, see’s a sign and she proceeds to steer the car in that direction. Then she just happened to pull up the driveway next to Diego’s cottage and it just so happened that Diego was just about to have his lunch inside. But when she pulled into the driveway and he saw her park her car, exit , and walk towards the cottage it was like he was hit with lightning! LOL! He could even keep his footing. He had totally lost it, he was smitten. Almost like he was even prompted to react with emotion. He could even find words to say as time seemed to go in slow motion as her eyes looked at him and her long hair seemed to sail with the gentle breeze. At the same time, Margie seemed to be thrown off too! As she grabs her collar on her springtime top shirt and then tries to balance herself on the hood of her car. Finally after just seconds that seemed for hours. Diego is the first to speak. All he can say is “You are very pretty” but she surprisingly says to him: “You are too” (LOL!) as she so innocently and humbly looks at him with a tenderly sweet expression on her face. Wow, what a match this could be! And yes indeed it began that way. So began a lunch together, yes right inside the dining table of that cottage where he found out her name was Margarita at birth. She told him that her mother was originally an immigrant from Spain and Papa was an immigrant from Ireland, so that's why they agreed to name her Margarita when she was born in 1975 in El Paso, Texas. From then on he called her “Guerita” , it just seemed to fit when he would call her “Mi Guerita” (My Guerita) So they spent many dates as she would come to visit him there and he would make trips to El Paso too. Then he decided to take a dive of commitment and move to El Paso. Where he found a very quaint and peaceful looking little cottage that reminded him of the one he had lived in Las Cruces. Needless to say they had much time to see each with such tremendous joy. Which leads us to today. Where after days, weeks, and months have gone by and Diego wants to tie the knot. So when he decides to pop the question he decides to write a little poetry, so to speak. So that he can share his long time dream of the special day and even days that he could wake up well rested and know that day will be a special day. Yes, from the time he pops the question to the day of the wedding. So he calls it: “ It’s 7am and This Is The Day!” Here is that poetry, so to speak:
It’s 7 AM and This Is The Day!
Alarm clock sounds off, you blink three times and then quickly sit up
The clock says it's spot on at 7AM you jump out of bed to hurry up
You stare at the mirror and ask: ”Where have you been all this time son?”
It has taken you a little while, as your heart beats and the beat goes on
You remember you have always wanted to get up at the same time at 7AM and not beyond
This is the day! You always wanted to sleep well all night long and this was the one
This is the day you have total control including not to age any more years because you found the one
It is 7AM , you have finally slept well, and are finally going to propose to your soulmate alone
Yes, this is the day that she will say Yes! You thought you were dreaming but your mind said no
Days pass and here you are again it’s 7AM! What a miracle! Today you both walk down the aisle, and say the “I Do’s”
It’s 7AM and this is the day you have longed for to be truer than true, and not like the last that didn't come through
It’s 7AM and This Is The Day!
Dedicated To “My Guerita”
So as we delicately and slowly close the curtains on this story. To all those Diego Martinez’s and Margie O'Brien's out there never give up on Love it will find you even if it seems like years have passed!
Robert Marquez (Looking for My Guerita, hope she finds me) LOL!

This is such a sweet story. I would love to hear a bit more description of what the two are thinking and feeling - they seem like such interesting people with so much life behind and ahead of them. For instance, the reader is told that he was smitten and prompted to react with emotion. But what does that mean? Was his heart racing, did he suddenly feel hot? Did he suddenly feel 25? Did he notice the expression on her face when she first saw him? Tell me about how they interacted during that first lunch - was the conversation much more comfortable than it had been with his previous wives? Did they sit closer together than he might have with one of his long time local friends? Any details that would get us into the setting of where they are and how they moved through the world and around each other would really help set the scene of this love story.
One other thing I would think about is the structure of the story. Where are new thoughts or scenes starting? Where might a new paragraph help the reader navigate the story?
I really loved the idea of this piece, the parallel of the man finally sleeping well, finally finding his true love. I think your characters have a really good start and they would be so much fun fleshed out a bit.
