Aubrielle sighed as she stretched. She is returning from her trip to Italy a day early, wanting to surprise her long-time fiancée, Mark. A goofy smile was on her face as she stepped down from the airplane, already imagining what Mark would look like. She was hoping that he wouldn’t mind that she didn’t inform him of her early arrival, after all, this was to be a surprise.
Truth be told, it was also a
surprise on her part when her secretary informed her that the business trip was
cut short because the clients had already agreed to the contract. Aubrielle was
euphoric. She beamed brightly at her secretary and immediately set on packing
her luggage. Not even a few hours later, she profusely thanked the client that
she had been assigned to meet.
“It really was a pleasure to
meet you, sir, and I’m very glad that we would be seeing more of each other in
the future.” Aubrielle bowed to the old man in front of her.
Jonathan, her client, laughed
boisterously. “It was no problem, Miss Holloway, it was a great pleasure to
meet you as well. You are a charming young woman, and Holloway Industries is
very lucky to have you on their company.”
Aubrielle flushed from the
compliment and smiled brightly at the old man. Back at the present, Aubrielle
took out her phone and frowned slightly when she saw that there were no
messages from Mark. She shook her head. Maybe he was just busy! The thoughts
consumed her mind. Throughout the trip to Italy, Mark hadn’t bothered to
message her either. Gulping, she reminded herself not to think the worst of her
fiancée.
Aubrielle truly loved the
man. She really, really did.
The woman smiled at her
chauffeur, who bowed slightly to her as he opened the door to her car.
Silently, she murmured to him, “Hello, Sebastian. It’s very nice to see that
you're doing well.”
Sebastian smiled at Aubrielle
as she got seated in the car. “Where to, Lady Aubrielle?”
“Well, I figured we could
drop off my bags before we go to the Lee Residence, would that be alright with
you?” Aubrielle furrowed her eyebrows. She was excited before, but now she was
slightly dreading going to her fiancée’s house. There was something that she
was fearing about the large mansion, but she didn’t exactly know what. Call it
intuition, if you like.
Much to Aubrielle's dismay,
the trip had not been that long, and she soon found herself on the doorstep of
her fiancée. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and was surprised to see
that everything was dark. She remained silent and took out her phone for light
instead.
Aubrielle slowly walked
towards the kitchens to see if Mark was there, but to her disappointment, he
was not. She heard thumping noises upstairs and thought that maybe Mark was
playing with friends again. Smiling softly to herself, she walked towards the
stairs, climbing it when she suddenly paused. The was a piece of stray clothing
lying astray on the staircase. A woman’s clothing.
A woman’s blouse.
Aubrielle was not liking the
feeling that she was getting. She was doubting her fiancée more and more. And she
did not like it. Aubrielle closed her
eyes as she walked past the blouse. As she ascended the stairs, there was only
more and more clothing as she passed.
Some, she recognized, but
some, she didn’t. At this point, Aubrielle was already expecting the worst. Her
heart only broke further when she heard the noises coming out of her fiancée’s
room. She was already outside the door. It seemed as though she was only
listening in. The loud moans of both her fiancée and another woman echoed
through her ears, her hand on the doorknob of Mark’s room. Tears streamed down
her cheeks, and she was breathing out of her mouth.
Feeling a bit braver than she
usually does, Aubrielle pushed open the door and was met by the outrageous
sight of Mark pounding a red-haired woman. Her heart leaped to her throat only
to drop to her feet. The woman shrieked as she saw Aubrielle, and
Aubrielle's heart only broke
when she saw who the woman was.
Her very own best friend,
Kate.
Aubrielle shook her head as
she took off the diamond engagement ring. With a shaky breath, she said,
“Goodbye, Mark. I hope you’ll be happy. You deserve each other. You’re both
lying snakes.”
She ran down the stairs,
ignoring her ex-fiancée’s pleas of letting him explain. Sebastian looked
shocked as he saw Aubrielle quickly entering the car with tears streaming down
her face. He glared at
the mansion and immediately
drove away.
Meanwhile, Aubrielle was
thinking of when the hell she went wrong. As far as she was concerned, she was
a fairly decent fiancée. Her engagement with Mark was doing wondrously. So
what went wrong?
It only added further tears
when she saw who was with Mark.
Kate.
Her best friend. Her only
friend. Her heart hurt. She closed her eyes as everything faded into
nothing.
Sebastian was alarmed.
Aubrielle passed out. He switched his route towards the hospital, and quickly
took Aubrielle out and carried her in his arms like she weighed nothing more
than a feather.
"Doctors!"
Sebastian called out, his face looking grim. "Please! This woman just
suddenly passed out!"
Doctors did go to him quickly,
and was horrified at the sight of the pale woman in his arms. They did a quick
scan of Aubrielle, and found that her heart wasn’t beating anymore. Nor was she
breathing. Within a span of a few hours, the doctors found out that Aubrielle died
from taktsubo cardiomyopathy.
In simpler terms, she had died of heartbreak.
The head doctors wondered what the poor woman had experienced for her to have this terrible sickness. One nurse broke the news to Sebastian, who looked terrified. Aubrielle’s parent were already there, and were informed of Aubrielle’s condition. They asked Sebastian what had happened, and the man explained that they had went to the Lee Residence, and that she had come out crying. That’s when Aubrielle’s parents knew one thing.
Mark was nothing more than that of a cheat.
