General Tenebris had once gazed upon the faces of thousands of fearful humans as he lowered their star-spangled flag and raised up his own empire’s banner. But now, all he could do was stare at the large crack in the yellowed popcorn ceiling above him.  January first was when he had been bedridden. He had been drilling some fresh new troops in a little suburban town, when he had started to feel light-headed.
