SILVER WEDDING ‘Nearly seven o’clock, Brad. People will start arriving any minute’. I looked at my wife. ‘You’re looking good.’ ‘Only ‘good’? Tonight’s a special occasion. You might pull out all the stops and say ‘beautiful!’ ‘You know me. Moderation in all things. Including compliments.’ She heaved a small sigh. ‘Indeed. Only moderately passionate these days. Light enough now for him to put a match to the small candle that was his only source of illumination. But he would wait, he was not in a hurry. Another few minutes and there would be enough daylight to locate a dustpan and brush, sweep up the debris scattered over the floor of the ...

‘Clang! The cage vibrated as the metal grid snapped down to block Moomy’s escape. He panicked, searching frantically for an exit, biting at the mesh that enclosed him. Dad rabbit had warned him, if you’re hungry, don’t go for anything that’s not growing in the ground. Those two-legged creatures leave chunks of stuff lying around in all kinds of strange places. They’ll try and trap you, he’d said. Be very careful. A selfish lot, they don’t want to share the plants they grow. M...
