My semi-peaceful stargazing was interrupted by the sliding of glass, followed by the rustling of Not-Alger stepping out onto the balcony and settling into a chair beside mine. My hands tightened around the hunting rifle I’d shoplifted, but he either didn’t notice or didn’t care. It wasn’t like I could bring myself to shoot him.
