So… there was a bit of a mix-up. As the lights went off in the movie theater I ruminated on what events had led up to this moment, sitting next to the person I was now. But to do that, we’ll have to backtrack a little. Mike Heusser had an extra ticket to the movies. It was to a premiere showing of Lost in November. Everyone in class had read the book. It was a picture of the band room with the caption: “Band Practice Tonight!” She hated that her band teacher used Insta to send out news. He was trying way too hard. She shook her head, it was so cringe. Jen, Ava’s roommate, looked up from her book, “What is it now?” Ava sighed, “Band practice got moved up to tonight instead of tomorrow…” Jen shrugged, “And?” Ava shook her head, “You never pay attention, ...

She is gazing up at us again, admiring our formations with wonder. Most don’t look up anymore. They look forward at glowing screens or down at paperwork, signing their dreams away. But she looks up. We are nothing special. Merely water in the sky. But she sees us as so much more. It matters not if people look at us, the sunset, or the astral tapestry of stars and planets. It only matters that they look up. Dreamers look up. They look up because the sky is in their reach. Most of the world looks forward or down because the sky is simply t...
