My adventure with writing began in the closet of my bedroom when I was six years old. One of my parents bought me a red typewriter with black and red ink ribbons. They gave me all the paper and time I needed to hide away in that closet and figure out how to do what I do well today. Which is to communicate with the outside world via intense interpersonal observations... That I happen to have written down. So that hopefully I can speak to you all long after I'm dead. See that's the whole point of the written language in the first place! People, places and the things they have conquered. The very idea that a person can get people hundreds or thousands of years in the future to say their name... And speak about them as if they knew them... This would make a person immortal in sense. Living on even though they are literally long gone from this world. That is what a writer does. Whether or not the world pays us any attention we keep writing it all down. Determined to recapitulate reality in real time. Knowing all along that we will most likely be long gone from this place when people start to listen. And that this is okay. And good. And what a writer should do.
