I have always been told that there is a thin line between love and hate. I guess, in theory, it makes sense. You get the same rush sensation, the same blur of vision, the same loss of breath. Love and hate are both extremely passionate sentiments- far away, on the whole, other end of the spectrum from lukewarm and mundanely numb.  I used to feel mundanely— not numb, but content— while participating in my college classes.
