Con’s never been great at apologies. Yet he finds himself on a familiar doorstep, annoyed by the premature rain. It’s barely June, he thinks. But he stands, drenched, thick droplets falling around his feet. His hair is soaked and his shirt has become see-through. He’s embarrassed—not only about the visibility of his chest but because of what he’s about to do. With about as much dread in his stomach as water in his shoes, Con reminds himself why he’s here. He scratches at the skin on his thumb, wishing he lived in some hieroglyphic world wher...
