I was in the second grade...my snowy haired teacher was the spitting image of my grandmother Alty May, who was also a teacher. She was also the principal during the great depression. Often my grandmother bought shoes for the kids whose toes were sticking out! Her students were very grateful! She taught Art to them, and served as a 4H leader in the small,farming community. Meat was scarce I remember her telling us that! Days of flapping shoewear and cornflakes for supper! My dad and four siblings must've been dis-heartened,maybe or maybe not!...
