Philippa lay on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. After a few minutes, the textured Artex began to swirl in front of her eyes, making her feel that at least something was moving in the flat, even if it was an imitation of life.  Her hands lay across her chest, clasped together, but not in prayer. The only noise came from revellers in the square five storeys down.
