Nobody warned me how boring adulthood could be. As a kid, I was never bored. They do say curiosity is the cure for boredom, and boy, was I curious kid. My eyes were filled with wonder, that’s what my mom always said at least. I remember spending my days in the “forest” behind my house, exploring, playing pretend, and collecting random objects I deemed worthy. One day, I even mapped out all of my favorite spots. I would spend hours playing with literal dirt and sticks. Now, I always feel as if something is missing, my sense of purpose. After ...

“Ok, I’m ready.”Arthur grabbed his duffel bag with one hand, and brought his scarf over his face with the other, and braced himself for the biting cold. He stepped out of his modest brownstone-styled apartment and made his way to a taxi waiting for him outside.“Took ya long enough, you know I ain’t got all day.” The driver's thick East Coast accent echoed through the snow. Her heart screams for her to stop, but she can’t. It’s too late. She knows she shouldn’t do this, that doing this will drastically change the course of her life. Her mind tells her it’s okay, throwing excuse after excuse to her, attempting to slow the pounding of her heart. She lowers herself to the ground, dirtying her once perfectly white dress. She brings it up to her lips, taking a dee...

Every day is the same in this town. The sun comes up, people go to work or school, and some just sit around smoking packs all day. Always seeing the same faces, the same run-down buildings, and the same view of rocks and country going on for miles and miles. The dull browns and reds of my desert home make it all the more mundane. My family has lived on this reservation, of what is now southern Utah, for generations now. My grandfather started his own horse ranch so our poverty-stricken community would have a place to keep their beloved anima...

Things are not always as they seem. There is no definitive good or bad. There is no right or wrong, just what we make of it. Bees sting but help keep our ecosystem stay alive. Dogs are great companions, but they can bite. Food keeps us nourished and alive but can poison us and rot us from the inside out. Even Mother Earth herself shares this duality, harboring all known life in the universe while seemingly trying to destroy it all in one breath. You get what I’m trying to say. So you see, I’m not a good person. I’m not a bad one either. To l...
