It was the best of times, it was the… oh wait, that’s a different story. I should lead with a more original first line. It was the longest day of my young life. My mother had woken us in the night, packed the car, and drove all night and all the next day. “Where is Mrs. Clink?” Rutherford Clink looked up from his steaming mug of coffee and saw the mail carrier at the door. The old mail carrier had wrinkles lining his weathered face, much like Rutherford. Rutherford had been sitting on the porch enjoying the birds.
