Her long, dark hair was blowing in the wind, visible even through the swirling snow. She stood on the shoulder of the highway in a jacket nowhere near warm enough for the night’s sudden snowstorm. The last thing I wanted right then was company, but I couldn’t leave anyone outside on a night like this.
