Nellie extends her hand toward me, a magazine clipping of Joshua Bassett between her index and middle fingers. You can do this. I rub my hands together, generating heat. I let a long sigh drag out against them, convincing myself I need another minute to acclimate to the cold. Mikayah Parsons was born in Taylorsville, North Carolina. She attends Amherst College in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies, English, History, and Black Studies with a concentration in Black Feminist Literary Theory. Her interests include the representation of low-income and first-generation college students in admissions policies, Black women’s wellness, and young adult fiction.
