I shouldn’t have gone in his wallet, but we had been married for three years. We shared a bank account, for goodness sake. Why couldn’t his wife try to slip two twenty notes in his wallet to pay for dinner? I had been trying to do a nice thing. Now I sat on the edge of our bed, my hands shaking.
