The knock on the door surprised me. The knock in and of itself wasn't unusual as many timesmy neighbors in the RV campground would stop by unannounced. It was a common occurrence. Often if it wasn't another friendly camper stopping by to say "hi", it wasone of the extremely competent and helpful maintenance men checking up on me.However, we were expecting a storm that night, and I was sure everyone around mewas batting down the hatches. I, too, was making sure that I had everything I needed to bestuck inside for the next few d...

No! No this can not be happening. Why did I accept this invitation? How drunk was I? It all sounded so romantic. My newest guy, Dean, is tall, dark, handsome and, ok, suave as all get out. What can I say? I was swept away. We met on a Friday, by Saturday we were hitting up flea markets, outdoor cafes, and inside hotel rooms. We couldn’t keep our hands off each other. It was heaven. That whole weekend was magical. Monday rolled around and we had to put us on hold; those pesky jobs were getting in the way. Right before we tore ourselves apart ...

I knew it. There he was again. I stopped to do some window shopping and I spotted him hiding(?) a few storefronts down.. Is he looking at rings? He was stopped in front of a jewelry shop, wearing very dark glasses “looking” at the display in the window, but I noticed him glancing in my direction every so often. He’s really not very good at this stealthy stuff. Every time I look in his general direction, he tries to be engrossed in the jewels shining brightly in their cases. Today, he tried to cover his unruly blonde hair underneath a baseba...

Such excitement, such a treat, dreaming of sand under my feet. I’ve been looking ahead to my cruise so long, the time is near and nothing can go wrong. I will finish my day at the shop, maybe leave early. I can, I’m on top. Drive home soon, then pack my case, off to sleep, my bed to embrace. Lazy morning tomorrow to finish the essentials and off to the airport from my residential. Before too long my pre-plans began to disappear, I heard was a loud scream and I cautiously peered. Followed by crying sounds of a child, ‘Oh’, I prayed it has to ...

The Magic of Christmas Past By Meg Lagares I am officially packed. My swimsuit is in my carry-on, along with sunscreen, some extra makeup, and my electronic reader loaded with many new books. I can hear my favorite lounge chair beckoning me to come sit. Deciding on going to the pool first or to the beach is my biggest concern right now. Booking the early morning flight, even as a non-morning person, was a no-brainer. This way, I can get to the airport, catch my flight, and be sitting in the Caribbean sun by three this afternoon. It’s been ...

“Just when I thought my life could not get any worse than it already is,” I thought to myself as I wailed into my pillow, “How could Mrs. Johnson assign us this project? A self-portrait! I don’t want to draw myself. I hate my own face." Everyone at school calls me ‘pimple girl’ or ‘bunny nose, Nancy’ Only I could have this kind of luck, especially in what used to be my absolute favorite subject at school. All the last semester, I couldn’t wait until I got to go into Mrs. Johnson’s art class. Some kids don’t even call her Mrs. Johns...
