“You’ve got this.” My mother whispered it into my hair, her arms wrapped tight around me while I lay there, tears streaking down my cheeks. My chest felt like it had been blown apart, leaving small pieces of my heart scattered around me, too damaged to fit back together. I knew that I needed to leave.
