Becky bites her bottom lip, the dark red lipstick marking her minty white teeth like a bad omen. Tom, the love of her life, stares through the dual-paned window with a sense of awe: chestnut brown eyes open wide, and mouth slightly forming an “O.” He loves the cold, he said. And the promise of his brilliant career. It was only supposed to be a year before things took off, but here they are going on number three, and still no big break. Becky deliberately ignores him, turning away from the window lit with twinkling multi-colored mini bulbs. ...

Author bio

Maureen "Mo" Hayes started her writing career as a consultant for civil engineers to broaden her skills while working on fiction projects. After writing numerous winning proposals, she convinced the local chapter of the professional engineering association to assign her as the editor for their monthly newsletter to enhance her journalism credentials. With unrestricted access to a network of public works staff, she established trusted contacts in local, state, and federal political circles. Her career involved developing strategies for winning and implementing large-scale infrastructure contracts, crafting legislation, and improving public works policies. In addition, she became a spokesperson for numerous professional organizations to highlight infrastructure issues. While she can point to many successfully built projects, her most significant contribution was raising two daughters to become independent women. After years of spinning 'facts,' she needed to regain her sanity and resumed writing fiction. She is a member of the Manuscript Academy and the Women's Fiction Writers Association (WFWA.) She writes from her home in Southern California.
