One week ago today I pulled out of that parking lot deeply saddened. The sun hid behind the clouds and provided a calming breeze, allowing the wind to dance perfectly through my hair; but the grief that followed counteracted the beauty and focused on the clouds. Writing doesn't have to be perfect, but it does have to be honest, or else it doesn't work. A favorite quote of mine is by E.L. Doctorow. He says “Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader-not the fact that it is raining, but the feeling of being rained upon. I hope that is what reader can find in me. I hope I can make you laugh, cry and feel emotions that dictionaries don't yet have words for. As long as you can feel I have done my job.
