Trees rushed by in a blur, their needle-sharp branches slashing at my face and clothes. Cracks of the sky peeked through the branches, coming in and out of focus. My heavy breathing filled the air. My golden locket thumped against my chest with each stride of my strong, short legs as I twisted through the trees.
