“Kate, The Storm and A Ute” by Linda Foot

The earth, dimpled and baked hardtack brown by an Australian summer that had been riddled with blowflies and whining mosquitoes, melted when the first rains of autumn came. Light dimmed, filtered by the mottled, bruised cloud hanging low in the petulant sky. Crisp, cool winds stirred cracked leaves, brittle from a summer’s wrath, and replaced the hot breath that had licked trails of perspiration across Kate’s forehead just moments before. Hi, I'm Linda. I live in Adelaide, Australia, and decided to try my hand at writing about a year ago. I came to Reedsy for prompts and 'Kate, the Storm and a Ute' is my first attempt at writing anything that may be seen by more than 10 people. I have lived for 55 years so far and have three magnificent children aged 16, 14 and almost 12. Having kids later in life presented unexpected challenges, but it was definitely worth it! My 12 year old thinks anything that I write is brilliant. She's a keeper 😉 I mostly write short, descriptive compositions and poetry that have come, in part, from my own experiences and truths. Embellishment is always added - my life is really not that interesting. I am looking forward to dipping in and out of the stories shared here - a perfect way to spend rainy winter afternoons.
