Sant Pol de Mar Beach, Spain, August 1979I remember how his eyes held mine and drew me toward the shore, my feet sinking an inch with every step and hot sand squishing like little lava eruptions from between my toes.I’d had a morning’s swim and had just caught him watching me when a wave caught my back and ushered me forward.
