White sunlight dappled the fields, and the pale-grey grass bowed to the wind. Elaine sat on the warm bitumen road, watching the monochromatic shadows pass over the ruins that were Tolyn. Author bio

Laetita Nelson is an enthusiastic writer and reader of fantasy and speculative fiction. Her work is inspired by the lush countryside of regional Victoria, Australia, where she lives on eight acres of bushland. She has dappled in poetry, with varied success, but she lives and breathes the fantasy genre. In 2024, she finished her Honours year in Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne, completing an Honours thesis which explored how a focus on the poetics of writing, mainly the sounds of words, can help make fictional worlds more immersive. When she isn’t writing, or curled up with her latest fantasy read, she can most likely be found playing violin in her irish/Gypsy Jazz band The Gordon Gypsies, or staring out the window planning the next scene in her novel.
