Author bio

Konrad (KC) Nau is the son of a plumber and was raised along with his six siblings in Wheeling, West Virginia. He graduated from Bethany College, West Virginia in 1975 with a degree in biology. He attended medical school at the West Virginia University School of Medicine from 1975-1979 and completed his residency in Family Medicine at WVU Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1982. He then started a small family practice clinic in doctorless Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. After twelve years of private practice including clinic, hospital, and obstetrical care he joined the faculty of the WVU Department of Family Medicine and established the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This educational enterprise grew into what is now the Eastern Division of the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Nau served various roles including Department Chair, Vice-President for Medical Affairs, and CEO of University Healthcare Physicians. His final five years were as Regional Campus Dean. In 2017 he retired from WVU and returned to the private practice of family medicine with Glenwood Medical Associates in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The cross-country bicycle journey of 1974 spurred him on to many more endurance-type pursuits including the Boston Marathon, the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim, and the Hawaiian Ironman. He is the father of two sons by his first marriage, and one stepdaughter by his current marriage, and the grandfather to ten grandchildren. He retired from medicine in 2024 and lives part-time in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and part-time in Cannon Beach, Oregon, with his wife Peggy. Together they cherish their two dogs, Bella and Mia, and their ten grandchildren. Dr. Nau has published several medical journal articles and monographs. “I Rode a Bike for 50 Years” is his first novel. He still rides a bike.
